Report: Jets Trying to Lure Dont’a Hightower Away from New England…with Cupcakes
The New York Jets are trying to pry linebacker Dont’a Hightower away from the New England Patriots. This is a good idea. Any time you can improve your roster by weakening your rival’s roster, you should do it.
Unfortunately for the Jets, they’re the Jets. They have almost nothing to offer. But hey, they’ve still gotta try, right?
On Sunday the Jets tried. They brought Dont’a Hightower to their building for an official visit. And since it just so happened to be Hightower’s 27th birthday, they pulled out all the stops.
What does that mean? ESPN’s Adam Schefter has the scoop.
“They sent his mother Jets merchandise,” Schefter revealed on NFL Insider. “They brought him out to dinner last night and had cupcakes given to him on his birthday. They had ‘Happy Birthday Dont’a Hightower’ on all the screens inside the Jets training facility.”
Jets gear? Cupcakes? Happy birthday messages on TV screens? That’s pretty impressive.
Of course, the Patriots gave Hightower cupcakes, too. Only their cupcakes are made of gold and diamonds, and you don’t actually eat them because they’re SUPER BOWL RINGS.
Seriously, Jets. Cupcakes? There is only one way to lure Dont’a Hightower away from the Patriots: get out the checkbook and make him a ridiculous offer he can’t refuse.
