Classy Nets Fans Give Russell Westbrook Standing O for 33rd Triple-Double (Video)
Last week Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook recorded his 32nd triple-double of the season. That moved him past NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain into second place on the single-season triple-doubles list.
On Tuesday in Brooklyn Westbrook recorded his 33rd triple-double of the season, leaving him just eight shy of Oscar Robertson‘s record 41.
Nets fans? They were very aware of the history they were lucky enough to witness. When Westbrook grabbed his tenth rebound with just under five minutes to play in the fourth quarter, a huge cheer erupted in the Barclay’s Center. And when play stopped a few minutes later, Nets fans gave Westbrook a standing ovation.
Take a look:
Of course, one could make a joke about how the Nets are so bad that their fans have no choice but to cheer for the opposing team. And while it might be funny, it wouldn’t be fair. You have to give Nets fans credit for respecting the history of the game and cheering for a historic accomplishment, regardless of who achieved it.
In the end Westbrook finished with 25 points, 19 assists, and 12 rebounds, and the Thunder won 122-104. He’s currently 10th in the leagues in rebounds, third in assists, first in points, and first in player efficiency rating. If that’s not an MVP season, I don’t know what is.
