This will they/won’t they thing between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor has been going on for a long time. However, in recent weeks the tone of their back-and-forth seems to have changed. All of a sudden this superfight between a retired 40-year-old boxer and a guy who doesn’t box at all actually seems possible.

So what changed?

Mayweather’s finances, according to UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping. On the latest episode of his Believe You Me podcast, Bisping tells a story about how a friend of a friend of a friend told him that there’s a rumor going around Vegas that Mayweather lost a bunch of money.

“My bet is that the fight will happen. Will it happen in June? I don’t know, that might be a bit too soon,” Bisping says. “But from what I understand, I was talking to someone in Las Vegas and I heard that Floyd recently got scammed out of a lot of money. The number was very, very big. I don’t think Floyd needs the money, but he wants to replace this money that he got swindled out of.”

Is this true? I kind of hope so. I like the idea of Mayweather feeling emasculated by losing money.

There’s no proof, though. It’s just a nice rumor.

Stay tuned.
