John Wall is Fed Up With Healthy Players Taking a Night Off: ‘Fans Pay Money To See You Play’

Utah Jazz v Washington Wizards

When superstar type players come to town, it’s pretty much a guaranteed sell-out that night, because fans want to see that player play, even though they’ll be rooting against him. But when fans pay top dollar and that player sits out to get rest, it’s a huge bummer and just unfair to the paying customers.

Last week, a huge matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors had fans excited for a possible Western Conference Finals preview. That was until both coaches decided to rest key starters and absolutely ruin the game for the fans.

Washington Wizards guard John Wall has had enough of healthy players resting and called the NBA ‘soft’ because of it.

“That’s the difference about our league now. It’s kind of gotten a little softer,” Wall told J. Michael of CSNmidatlantic.com. “Guys sit out and rest. I understand the coach made a decision, you can’t go against what the coach said or the doctor said.”

On Wednesday, Wall sprained his left foot in a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, but ended up returning to the game as he didn’t want to miss any time. He also played on Friday against the Chicago Bulls despite the injury.

“I’m not the type of guy who wants to sit down and rest,” the All-Star said. “I think you owe it to the fans. They paid money to come see us play. That’s how a professional goes out there and competes. If nothing is hurt, you can play go play.”

“I missed games I didn’t want to miss in the past because I was injured. I make up for the time I can make up,” he said.
