Three of the last four major North American professional sports championships have featured an epic collapse.

It all started last June, when the Golden State Warriors lost an epic Game 7 and blew a 3-1 NBA Finals lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Then in November, the Cleveland Indians lost an epic Game 7 and blew a 3-1 World Series lead over the Chicago Cubs. And finally, in February, the Atlanta Falcons lost an epic Super Bowl 51, blowing a 25-point third quarter lead against the New England Patriots.

These three teams—the Warriors, Indians, and Falcons—will be forever linked in the annals of sports trivia. And now it seems Falcons coach Dan Quinn has decided he isn’t even gong to try to fight it.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, Quinn has sought advice from Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Indians manager Terry Francona about how to handle a horrendous, demoralizing, season-ending, championship-choking collapse. And just one day after the internet collectively celebrated 3-28 day!

On the one hand you have to give Quinn some credit for trying to get out in front of this. Losing a championship the way the Falcons did has to be incredibly painful. He needs to find a way to get his guys to stop dwelling on it and focus on the future.

On the other hand, it’s not entirely clear what the hell Quinn hopes to learn from Kerr and Francona at this point in time. The Warriors jolted their players out of their funk by going out and signing Kevin Durant, one of the best players in the world. But we still don’t know how they’ll respond to adversity in the playoffs, when the pressure is really on. The Indians, meanwhile, haven’t even started their bounce-back campaign. At this point Francona is still better equipped to talk about what it’s like being on the winning side of an epic collapse.

But who knows? Maybe by pooling their wisdom and experience, Kerr, Francona, and Quinn can unlock the secret to overcoming humiliating losses.
