Mets Fans Welcome Big Sexy Bartolo Colon Back to Citi Field with Awesome Signs and Standing Ovation (Video)
The New York Mets had one of the best starting rotations in baseball last year, and they’ll probably have one of the best starting rotations in baseball this year. However, it will be 20% less sexy due to the departure of Bartolo Colon.
Colon established himself as a fan favorite during his three seasons in Queens. However, baseball is a business, and at the age of 43, the potbellied heartthrob couldn’t pass up a one-year $12.5 million offer from the Atlanta Braves in the offseason.
Obviously, Mets fans were disappointed by Big Sexy’s departure. Watching that guy swing the bat is one of the game’s greatest pleasures. But judging from the reception Colon got on Wednesday night in his first start at Citi Field as a member of the Braves, there don’t appear to be any hard feelings.
Take a look:
Speaking to reporters after the game, Colon said he was touched by the outpouring of support from Mets fans.
“I definitely want to show my appreciation to the fans, so I kind of gave that pause [before my first at-bat] and showed that appreciation,” Colon told MLB.com. I didn’t really expect it today. I wasn’t as surprised on Opening Day. Again, I just want to express my gratitude to the Mets fans and the warm reception they gave me.”
