Doctor Pulled Off United Airlines Flight Used to Be a Pro Poker Player (Pic + Video)

United Airlines

The most famous man on the internet right now is David Dao. You might not know his name, but after 48 hours, you surely know him as the man who was left bloodied and beaten after refusing to give up his seat on a United Airlines flight; dragged off by airport security.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and have not yet seen the footage, here it is:

It’s just come to light that Dao spent some time as a pro poker player in 2006 when his medical license was suspended for illegally prescribing painkillers to patients. In 2009, he was still kicking around the game and took second in a tourney, netting him $117k.

His totals on the WSOP site show him tallying up career earnings of $234k over his pro run.

It’s unclear at the moment if he’s still in the game, and in what capacity, but it’s a safe bet that he’ll have a bit more of a bankroll in the coming months or years after he sues the airline.

We’ll see if he takes any of that cash to the tables or puts it away in a more traditional fashion.
