Report: Cleveland Browns Split Between Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky with No. 1 Pick

For months the experts have been saying Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garret is hands down the best player available in the 2017 NFL draft. So obviously the Cleveland Browns, owners of the number one pick, are strongly considering using it on North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

There is nothing “wrong” with Trubisky. His stock has risen dramatically in recent weeks as teams desperate for a solution at quarterback have apparently determined that he is more “pro-ready” than Clemson’s Deshaun Watson. Some experts now say he’ll go either to the Bears at no. 3 or the Jets at no. 6.

However, when it comes to potential first year impact, there’s no comparison between Trubisky and Garrett. With his incredible size and speed, Myles Garrett is a generational talent. He could be an elite NFL pass rusher immediately.

Obviously, the Browns need a quarterback. The Browns always need a quarterback. But Trubisky is a much bigger risk than Garrett, and the Browns need sure-fire impact players.

Nevertheless, according to Adam Schefter

In addition to the first overall pick, the Browns also own number 12. It’s possible that they had been hoping to take Trubisky with the 12th pick, but recent rumors about him going to the Bears and Jets at number three or six has them reconsidering.

It’s also possible that the Browns are leaking false rumors in an attempt to spook the Bears or Jets into trading up for the number one pick. But that sounds a little too clever for the Browns.

Stay tuned.
