As many fans of the sport know, a tough submission hold can be every bit as bad as a lightning fast knockout (if not worse). At least the knockouts take place in short order. Submissions take time, involve increasing pressure and, often, broken or dislocated bones.

Not fun.

So don’t say we didn’t warn you with this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hold, which results in a broken arm.

It’s the cost of doing business in MMA, but that still doesn’t make it any easier to watch.

(Final Warning: It’s disgusting!)

GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: Absolutely brutal submission. Not for the faint of heart. @ethancrelinsten

The hold used here is known as a kimora, and the result is what happens when you value winning or fighting over the well-being of your own body. It’s a tricky thing, but the lesson? Don’t be too proud to tap out.

If you can stomach it again, look at the ref’s reaction. He speaks for all of us.
