Here’s Every Bucket from Isaiah Thomas’ Epic 53-Point Game 2 Performance (Videos)
If Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas had been a little off for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Wizards on Tuesday, nobody would have blamed him. Thomas had oral surgery on Monday to repair the tooth that got knocked out during Game 1 on Sunday. Then he spent another four hours at the hospital on Tuesday morning to treat the swelling. And on top of all that, Tuesday was his sister’s birthday, or rather it would have been had she not been killed in a car crash just prior to the Celtics first round playoff series against the Bulls.
Isaiah Thomas was not a little off, though. In fact, he played out of his mind, scoring a career-best 53 points, including 29 in the fourth quarter and overtime, leading the Celtics to a thrilling 129-119 win and a 2-0 series lead.
How does Thomas’s Game 2 performance stack up historically? It’s the 14th highest single-game point total in playoff history, and the second-highest in Celtics playoff history. The other guys ahead of Thomas on the all-time list? Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Rick Barry, and John Havlicek—so, you know, pretty elite company.
Fortunately, for those of us who didn’t get to see the game, somebody went and put together a highlight reel of every single basket Thomas made in Game 2. Check it out:
After the game, everyone wanted to know how the hell Isaiah found in it him to pull off such a performance.
He kept it together while talking to TNT’s David Aldridge on the court immediately after the final buzzer:

But at the postgame press conference, after things had quieted down, Thomas’ emotions finally got the better of him:
Hats off to this guy for turning in a performance for the ages under the most trying of circumstances.
