Reds Speedster Billy Hamilton Challenges Bengals Draft Pick John Ross to a Race
Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton has been the fastest man in Cincinnati since he first joined the big leagues in 2013. However, that status is up in the air now that John Ross is in town.
Ross, a wide receiver out of Washington, broke Chris Johnson‘s NFL Combine record by running the 40-yard dash in 4.22 seconds at this year’s NFL Combine. Last week he was selected ninth overall by the Bengals in the 2017 NFL Draft.
On Thursday, Billy Hamilton stole his 16th base of the season during a 4-2 win over the Pirates. In doing so he became the fourth-fastest player in MLB history to reach 200 career steals.
After the game, Hamilton mused about a possible race between Ross and himself.
“I think we could do 40 and I think it’d be a good race for the city and for me and him to get our names out there,” Hamilton told reporters. “It’s something we could look forward to looking into, our agents [could talk] and see how it goes.”
“It’s something I look forward to,” Hamilton continued. “I’m a competitor—if something happens with him, it happens. We’ll do it for a charity event. I’m willing to do it.”
Obviously, this is a fantastic idea. Chris Johnson raced a cheetah. The least John Ross could do is race Billy Hamilton.
Make it happen, agents.
