For the second year in a row, the Washington Capitals won the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy as the best team during the regular season. And for the second year in a row, the Washington Capitals were eliminated in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sadly, this is nothing new for Capitals fans. In the 12 seasons they’ve had Alexander Ovechkin, the Caps have won three Presidents’ Trophies, seven division titles, and qualified for the playoffs nine times. However, they’ve made it past the second round zero times. ZERO.

The last time the Washington Capitals made it to the third round of the playoffs was 1998. That year they went all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. And Twitter had not been invented.

Twitter exists now, though. And it is absolutely roasting the Caps after yet another disappointing playoff run.

Check it out:

Sorry, Caps fans. Maybe next year.
