LaVar Ball Under Fire For Response to Kyrie Irving About His Child & Dead Mother
There’s a 100% chance LaVar Ball had no clue about Kyrie Irving’s situation, but it doesn’t make it any less horrible.
During his latest incident on FS1′s “Undisputed,” Ball responded to Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving’s suggestion to ‘let go’ once his son Lonzo Ball is drafted into the league.
“I’m sorry, LaVar, you’re not going to be in every hotel room that Lonzo is going to be in,” Irving said during a recent appearance on Uninterrupted’s “Road Trippin” podcast, which is hosted by his Cavaliers teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, as transcribed by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“You’re not going to be everywhere and part of his life as he continues to grow up. You got to let go. He’s 19 years old. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it to bypass him being a father, but he’s got to let Lonzo be Lonzo for the long haul.”
“Kyrie, definitely.” Ball said. “How you gonna tell me how my son should be when you don’t have a kid?”
Irving’s first child was born in 2015, but that wasn’t the most offensive thing Ball said.
“Kyrie, he’s in a different situation,” he added. “So you can’t put yourself in the same situation as Lonzo. I have a wife and two other sons. You not in that situation … first of all, your mom wasn’t there, so something’s got to change right there. It’s not the same. Lonzo can come home and see his mom and dad all the time.”
Kyrie’s mother, Elizabeth, passed away when he 4-years-old.
Social media responded:
This is despicable. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he did not know about Kyrie’s mom. https://t.co/ieGLlGLGLy

@balleralert LaVar is right. Kyrie has no right to comment on Lonzo cuz they’re situations are different. Y’all let hatred of LaVar obscure sense

@balleralert Lavar Ball is ruining his kids careers before they even start. He needs to be in the background and shut his mouth. Let Lonzo be a success.
