In a surprising instance of the NFL listening to the voice of its fans, Roger Goodell met with 40 players recently and has agreed to walk back the league’s impossibly strict stance on excessive celebration penalties following big plays and touchdowns.

The news, which comes from Peter King at SI‘s MMQB, is less likely about the feedback from the players and fans regarding this specific issue and more likely the result of ongoing criticism that games are broken up by just too many penalties in general.

The conversation is ongoing, but King reports that if the move is approved, which it’s expected to be, that “it will be neither a penalty and a $12,154 fine.”

Sounds good to us.
