Monday was the first day NFL teams could hold “organized team activities,” or OTAs. While the practice sessions are officially considered voluntary, teams often use them to gauge players’ work ethic, maturity, and commitment. Meanwhile, players sometimes use OTAs to make statements, knowing full well that their absence will be noticed

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.? He skipped the first day of OTAs. Instead of working out with his teammates—the ones he let down so often last year with his bizarre temper tantrums—OBJ was in Los Angeles working out with NFL reject Johnny Manziel.

We know this because Manziel posted the pics on Instagram:

Never switched up not even for a second @obj happy for you my brotha you deserve it #ComebackSZN

Cleat designer Ty Cole (a.k.a. the guy with the beard) also posted a video:

Mission accomplished. #doneanddone

As you would expect, the New York tabloids were all over this:

On the one hand, it seems unfair that players would be judged negatively for not attending voluntary practices.

On the other hand, it’s not like Odell Beckham Jr. is getting pressured to attend after-work functions for a job that pays $22/hour. He gets paid millions of dollars. If being pressured by my employer to go beyond the call of duty was a condition of me earning $3.2 million dollars this year, I’d be okay with that.

Also, of all the people to work out with, Johnny Manziel? Seriously? It’s like OBJ is trying to piss off the Giants.
