We’ve known for quite some time that Nike’s Air Mags, the shoes inspired by the ones from Back to the Future II, are among the most wanted in sneaker history. But recently, an auction proved just how far a collector would go to get their hands on them.

A pair of the 2016 version (complete with Power Laces, a feature the 2011 version lacked), just sold at auction for $52,500.

It merits noting that, last year, a pair of the shoes sold for twice that amount, at $104,000, but those proceeds went to charity. The proceeds from the $52,500 sale did not, meaning this buyer did it all for the shoes.

So…do you wear them out after you pay that much for them, or what? I’m guessing the buyer’s answer would start its own controversy.
