Young Saints Superfan To Be Honored with ESPN’s Jimmy V Perseverance Award
On the July 12th ESPYs, you might see a new face onstage…well, unless you’re a New Orleans Saints fan.
If you are, you’re no stranger to Jarrius Robertson, the 15-year-old hype man and local celeb who’s become a fixture at games, despite wrestling with a lifelong illness known as biliary atresia—a liver disorder which has stunted his growth and led to 15 surgeries.
ESPN’s honoring Robertson’s tenacity and strength by bestowing upon him the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, in honor of former college coach Jim Valvano.
Robertson has drawn praise from no less than New Orleans icon and hero Drew Brees, who said of the young man, “Jarrius is such an inspirational young man. His strength, determination and resolve along with his infectious energy and attitude should be an example that no matter the circumstances or adversity, with a positive outlook and embracing the motto of ‘Don’t give up. … Don’t ever give up,’ there isn’t a challenge that cannot be conquered.”
If you aren’t familiar with Jarrius’s story just yet, ESPN’s going to fix that on July 12th, so stay tuned.
