Gunman Opens Fire on GOP Congressional Baseball Team Injuring Five, Including House Whip Steve Scalise
Watch: Intense Video of Gun Battle Between Law Enforcement and GOP Baseball Shooter
We now have video of the gun battle between law enforcement officers and the GOP baseball shooter. While it does not show anybody getting shot, it is still absolutely terrifying.
The shooter, who has since been identified as James Hodgkinson, a leftwing activist-turned-criminal from Bellville, Illinois, opened fire on the GOP Congressional baseball team in the DC suburb of Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday morning around 7 a.m. The team was practicing for Thursday’s charity game against the Democratic Congressional baseball team at Nationals Park, an annual tradition dating back to 1909.
Five innocent people were shot in the attack, including House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise. Hodgkinson was eventually shot by Scalise’s security detail, which included members of the Secret Service and the Capitol Police. He later died at a local hospital.
Two videos of the gun battle have now been released.
The first, obtained by the New York Post, was shot by a witness at Eugene Simpson Park. It shows law enforcement officers moving around and firing at Hodgkinson in the distance. It also shows someone lying down in the middle of the baseball field, trying to avoid getting shot:
The second video, obtained by The Hill, was shot in the backyard of a nearby Alexandria resident. You can’t see what’s going on at the field, but you sure can hear it:
Scalise, who was reportedly shot in the hip, underwent surgery on Wednesday morning. Though his office initially indicated he was in stable condition, it is now being reported that he is in “critical” condition and may require more surgery.
