Phillies Odubel Herrera Gets Benched After Ignoring Coach, Running Through Stop Sign (Video)

Perhaps the easiest way to get benched in sports is by ignoring your coach.  That’s exactly what the Philadelphia Phillies’ Odubel Herrera did during last night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

With the game tied, 5-5, in the bottom of the ninth, two outs, and Herrera on first, Phils’ shortstop Freddy Galvis hit a double to left field.  The hit should have advanced Herrera to third base, but the centerfielder got a little too greedy and ran right through third base coach Juan Samuel‘s stop sign.

Of course, Herrera was thrown out easily at home for his troubles.  And for disobeying his coach’s orders, he was pulled from the game before the next inning and had to watch his team lose in extra innings from the bench.
