Popular French fitness blogger and Instagram model Rebecca Burger has died after being struck in the chest by an exploding whipped cream canister.

The pressurized canister exploded at Burger’s home in Galfingue in Eastern France on Saturday. The impact on Burger’s chest sent the 33-year-old into cardiac arrest. Fire fighters were initially able to revive her, but she was unconscious when she arrived at the hospital and died the next day.

Burger’s family announced her passing on her Instagram account:

The day before they posted a photo of the whipped cream canister, warning people not to use it:

The caption reads:

Here’s an example of the cartridge/siphon for Chantilly cream that exploded and struck Rebecca’s chest, killing her. Take note: the cartridge that caused her death was sealed. Do not use this type of device in your home! Tens of thousands of these appliances are still in circulation.

Ard’time, the company that manufactures the canister, issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy and urging consumers to comply with a 2013 recall. A French consumer magazine reported that there has been several other incidents of exploding whipped cream canisters causing broken teeth and bones. However, Burger is the first known fatality.

Burger ran a lifestyle blog called Rebecca Likes. Her Instagram account, where she posted fitness and healthy living photos, has over 190K followers.
