Report: Pacers Tried to Trade Paul George To Warriors For Klay Thompson
After all the dust settles, the Indiana Pacers ended up getting Victor Oladipo and Domantis Sabonis from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for all-star swingman Paul George.
Yes, at least the Pacers got something for George before losing him in free agency next offseason. But I think it’s safe to say that they probably wish they had gotten a little more…like, say, Klay Thompson?
According to reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, before flipping George to the Thunder, the Pacers had explored a trade with the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Thompson.
Paul George was aware of the offer, which the Warriors declined. He recently spoke about it with Woj (via ESPN):
“I would’ve looked forward to it, of just being in a good situation and a chance to compete for a championship,” he told Wojnarowski. “But it didn’t happen. It’s still fun to team up with a special talent and have a chance to compete against that team.”
A move to the Warriors would have been “fun” for George, but it probably would have sucked for the rest of the league. Could you imagine PG-13 playing alongside Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Draymond Green?
I think we can all agree that George to the Thunder is much more enjoyable for everyone.
