Super Bowl LI - New England Patriots v Atlanta Falcons

With the exception of maybe his first year in the league, Luke McCown has pretty much been a back-up quarterback his entire career.  He has also thrown 5 interceptions and zero touchdowns over his last eight seasons in the NFL.

Despite his stats, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had en eye-brow raising reason for wanting to sign Luke McCown over Colin Kaepernick.

“We really have our guys set in a way that Luke fit what we wanted from our third quarterback,” Jones said Saturday, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “Dak is obviously No. 1. Moore is obviously No. 2, so we’re looking more for somebody that we can evaluate and train and possibly be a quarterback of the future.”

“We really are looking at our third quarterback,” he said. “I said we’re looking for a player that we can develop more. That’s about all I’d say about it.”
To develop?  At this time we should point out that McCown is 36-years-old, while Kaepernick is only 29.
