San Diego Chargers v Cincinnati Bengals

San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers legendary running back LaDainian Tomlinson is set to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame this coming weekend. During his induction ceremony, there’s expected to be a couple of notable faces not in attendance.

Former teammates Phillip Rivers and Antonio Gates may not be there to see it, not because they don’t want to be, but because the franchise advised them not to be there.

Sporting News has the details as to why:

“Two sources told Sporting News that new Chargers coach Anthony Lynn is insisting that quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates instead participate in the team’s first training camp session at the StubHub Center. One source said Gates is considering going, anyway, even if the trip draws a fine.”
Tomlinson, Rivers and Gates collectively were one of the NFL’s most exciting trio’s. They were also a part of the last Chargers squad to reach an AFC Championship Game.
