REPORT: Clippers Center Willie Reed Arrested On Domestic-Violence Charge
Wife of Clippers’ Willie Reed Says He Dragged Her Through Apartment After She Wanted Divorce
Los Angeles Clippers center Willie Reed got himself arrested early Sunday morning on a domestic violence charge stemming from an incident with his wife.
Since then, more details have emerged on what led up to his arrest and it doesn’t bode well for the 27-year-old.
Sports Illustrated has the details:
“His wife told police that he dragged her across the apartment while wrestling for a purse and later pulled her hair and grabbed her by the wrist during an argument Saturday night.
Reed’s wife told police the argument started when she told her husband she wanted a divorce, according to the police report. She said she was knocked to the ground while struggling over her purse and dragged around the apartment until the strap broke. She also alleged Reed tore her shirt as she went to the lobby of the apartment building to notify the concierge, then returned to get her two children.
When the woman picked up her youngest son and started to exit the apartment again, she told police Reed grabbed her by the hair to take the child back, then grabbed her left wrist and twisted her arm to get her to the ground. She said she responded by hitting Reed in the head with a glass candle.
Reed told police he never put his hands on his wife, but did acknowledge grabbing her shirt and her purse, according to the police report. He also told police that he touched his wife as she was getting on the elevator.
Police said Reed’s wife had red marks on her left wrist, right biceps, back and chest.”
Reed declined his player option with the Miami Heat that would have paid him $1.6 million for 2017-18. He just finalized a 1-year deal with the Clippers last week on a $1.5 million, one-year contract.
Reed averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds last season.
