Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is not a very good hitter, but he’s still one of the most exciting players in baseball thanks to his blazing speed and incredible athleticism.

Both of those attributes were certainly on display at Great American Ballpark on Tuesday night, where Hamilton robbed San Diego Padres second baseman Carlos Asuaje of an extra base hit with one of the most spectacular catches you’ll ever see.

With the Padres up 3-0 in the top of the third, Asuaje ripped a 3-1 fastball from Reds starter Sal Romano to the deepest part of the ballpark in straightaway center field, where the fence is 404 feet from home plate. It looked like at least a double, and possibly even a triple depending on the bounce.

Then Hamilton did the impossible. First he used his incredible speed to run the ball down. Then he leapt up onto the center field wall, planted his right foot, and made an absolutely bonkers over-the-shoulder catch.

Take a look:

It doesn’t get much better than that.

In the archived box score that catch is going to look like an ordinary F8. But you can bet everybody who saw it in person is going to remember it for the rest of their lives.
