baker mayfield plants ou flag

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield formally apologized to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday for planting his team’s flag in the middle of Ohio Stadium. However, that doesn’t mean the fans are ready to let this go.

On Sunday, an Oklahoma fan went onto the Ohio Stadium wikipedia page and changed the owner from Ohio State University to—you guessed it—Baker Mayfield.

This kind of thing is pretty common. But the Wikipedia editing did not stop there.

Later Sunday, an Ohio State fan struck back, changing the owner of Ohio Stadium to “EVERY TRUE BUCKEY FAN.” And when prompted by Wikipedia to summarize the changes, the Ohio State fan wrote, “Changed the ‘owner’ section form that coward Baker Mayfield to the rightful owners!”

Amazingly, this edit lasted 23 hours. The owner wasn’t changed back to “Ohio State University” until Monday afternoon. However, this still wasn’t the end of the Oklahoma-Ohio State Wikipedia war.

Turns out Apple’s helpful assistant Siri, who gets a lot of her information from Wikipedia, got caught up in all this. As of 4:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, she was still reporting that Ohio Stadium was owned by Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield can apologize all he wants. I’m glad he planted the Oklahoma flag in the Ohio State logo. This has all been very entertaining.
