Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva Says He Now ‘Feels Embarrassed’ By Photo Of Him Standing Alone

Alejandro Villanueva

On Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made it real clear that no players on the squad would be on the field for the playing of the national anthem. Rather, they would stay in the locker room, and it was all in response to the comments made by Donald Trump.

The only Steelers player that came out during the anthem was lineman Alejandro Villanueva, who stood alone in the tunnel with his hand over his heart.

More than 24 hours later, he now feels embarrassed each time he sees that photo posted online. He explained why he feels that way on Monday.

Judging by his comments, Villanueva doesn’t want to be that go-to picture that people use to make their argument on social media to bring others down. That wasn’t his intention.
