When Chad Johnson sees NFL players kneeling, it doesn’t have the same type of feel to it anymore.

A little over a year ago, Colin Kaepernick was spotted sitting down during during the anthem of a preseason game. Following the game he was asked why he did it, to which he answered:

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Fourteen months later, the majority of NFL players have participated in some form of protest, but former Cincinnati Bengals wide-out Chad Johnson believes the entire demonstration has been “politically whitewashed.” He claims it has become “a goddamn Ice Bucket Challenge” because of Donald Trump’s comments.
