Derrick Rose Says Someone Is Paying Him Big After Next Season: ‘You’ve Got To Pay Me Double’

Cleveland Cavaliers Media Day

Back in April, while still a member of the New York Knicks, Derrick Rose told friends he would seek a max contract over the summer to the tune of $150 million. What he got instead was a veteran minimum contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He has a plan, however.

After having his 4th knee surgery last year, Rose is feeling better than ever and plans to show out this year so that he can get PAID next summer.

Via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

“I get a chance to reintroduce myself back to the league. I get to bet on myself. That was one of the reasons I came here, I get to bet on myself. And I’m from Chicago, I’ve got that hustling side; it’s in me, man. Next time you’ve got to pay me, you’ve got to pay me double, so it’s fine with me.”

His words suggest he wants double what he is getting this season, which is $2,116,955. Doubling that amount would put him in a class with players like Ron Baker, Jamal Crawford and Aron Baynes.

If he really does have a breakout year, I’m guessing he’ll want more than that.
