ESPN Soccer Analyst Taylor Twellman Goes On All-Time EPIC Rant After USMNT Fails To Qualify For World Cup (Video)
The United States Men’s National Soccer Team suffered the most humiliating defeat in its history on Tuesday night.
The team’s 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago, combined with Panama’s 2-1 win over Costa Rica and Honduras’ 3-2 win over Mexico, landed them in fifth place in the CONCACAF 2018 World Cup qualifier group. That means, for the first time since 1986, the United States will not play in the World Cup.
To be fair, it wasn’t just their awful performance on Tuesday that sunk the USMNT. They got off to a terrible start in the last round of World Cup qualifiers, going just 2-2-3 with two losses to Costa Rica and one to Mexico. However, with their 4-0 win over Panama on Friday, everyone thought the USMNT had finally gotten their sh*t together. After that, all they needed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup was a tie against a lowly Trinidad and Tobago, a country of just 1.3 million people whose team had scraped together just one win in the final round of qualifying games.
The USMNT should have been able to pull off that result with their eyes closed. But they didn’t.
Needless to say, American soccer fans were beside themselves. But it’s quite likely that nobody was more pissed off than ESPN soccer analyst Taylor Twellman.
Twellman, a former Major League Soccer MVP and former member of the USMNT, gave us one of the greatest sports rants of all time after the shocking loss to Trinidad and Tobago.
