Internet Reacts to Georgia Being Ranked No. 1 In First CFP Rankings (TWEETS)
While many expected Alabama to once again top the opening College Football Playoff rankings, they were outdone by another SEC foe in the Georgia Bulldogs.
With identical 8-0 records, Georgia edged Alabama for the top spot in the first CFP rankings of the 2017 season.
Alabama has yet to play any of the teams who are currently ranked in the CFP top 25. Their marquee win at the moment came during the opening weekend, when they beat the then-no. 3 ranked Florida State Seminoles, 24-7. But the with the Noles now sitting at 2-5 on the season, it’s easy to see why the Crimson Tide were placed behind a Bulldogs team that has already defeated two top 25 teams in Mississippi State and Notre Dame.
Speaking of Notre Dame, they were next up in the No. 3 spot, followed by Clemson and Oklahoma to round out the top 5 (in that order).
Here’s a look at what the top 25 looks like for the first CFP rankings of this season (via ESPN):
This marked the first time ever that Georgia has been ranked No. 1 in a College Football Playoff pole.

Georgia ranked #1 solidifies my thought even more that they’re going to beat Alabama in the SEC title game

Last time South Carolina faced a #1 ranked team in SEC play, they upset Alabama in 2010. The Gamecocks face #1 ranked Georgia on Saturday.

Great work by the CFP Committee. Top-6 makes perfect sense. Bama v UGA will play itself out, but UGA has the better resume right now. pic.twitter.com/GWXz6cGfzH

Friendly reminder that the first CFP rankings a year ago were: 1. Alabama, 2. Clemson, 3. Michigan, 4. Texas A&M. So don’t fret too much.

Love that Georgia is #1 ahead of Alabama. Road win at Notre Dame is best of any team this season. ND deserves to be #3 as well. If not #2.

CFP chairman Kirby Hocutt on Alabama-Georgia debate: “At the end of the day, it was the two wins against CFP top-25 teams for Georgia.”

Alabama I was the one who made the long distance phone call and convinced the committee Georgia was #1
