Legendary Broadcaster Dick Enberg Dead at 82
It’s supposed to be a joyful time of year, but the sports world was struck with sadness Thursday night when it was announced that broadcast legend Dick Enberg had passed away at his home in La Jolla, California. He was 82 years old.
Enberg was expected to be in Boston on Thursday to see his family (including his three grandchildren for the first time), but when he didn’t arrive on the flight, they became concerned. When someone checked on him at his home back in La Jolla, they found him dead with his bags packed. The cause of death has not been made official, but it is believed he suffered a heart attack.
Enberg’s voice became one of the most recognizable in sports during his time at NBC, CBS, and ESPN. He covered countless major sporting events, including Super Bowls, Wimbledons, and the NCAA Tournament Finals.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
