Martellus Bennett just recently retired from the league, so he’s speaking out on various things now without having to deal with repercussions from the NFL.

The former NFL tight end made headlines when he told Chris Simms and Adam Lefkoe on a Bleacher Report podcast that “about 89%” of players in the league smoke marijuana, and they did it for other reasons than to just get high.

“There are times of the year where your body just hurts so bad,” Bennett said. “You don’t want to be popping pills all the time. There are anti-inflammatory drugs you take so long that they start to eat at your liver, kidneys and things like that. A human made that. God made weed.”

Something about that statement seemed to really upset Stephen A. Smith, because he took to ‘First Take’ on Thursday and called Bennett’s entire statement on the matter ‘dumb’.
