REPORT: Lakers Are Planning on Pursuing Kawhi, LeBron, & Paul George This Offseason
The Los Angeles Lakers used to be a proud franchise until they hit a rut a few years ago and it has led to them having 5-straight losing seasons. The team has yet to sign a big time free agent that would come in and put the team back on the right track.
That can all change this offseason as the team is likely to pursue disgruntled star Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs if the team is serious about trading him. That’s just the start of things, because there’s a guy named LeBron James who is becoming a free agent and he’s given no indication that he’ll re-sign and end his career in Cleveland.
Along with Kawhi, the Lakera are still planning on pursuing both LeBron James and Paul George this offseason.
“The Lakers plan hasn’t changed. They want to get both of them,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Thursday, per ESPN Los Angeles.
L.A. general manager Rob Pelinka wouldn’t confirm this last week when speaking with Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated, but he did note that the team is in a great position when it comes to cap space.
“That’s the beauty of it,” he said. “Whatever the road becomes—Is it two max guys this summer? Is it one this summer and one the next? Is it splitting up the space and just growing this young core?—it’s a good road to be on.”
