“Hefty Lefty” Jared Lorenzen Has Lost 100 Pounds in Just Nine Months! (Videos)

Jared Lorenzen was always more rotund than the typical NFL quarterback. He was a big dude when he played for Kentucky, and he acquired the nickname “The Hefty Lefty” while serving as Eli Manning‘s backup with the Giants for two seasons. However, Lorenzen got bigger after his NFL days were over. Though he still had a cannon for an arm, his weight started to become a problem.

Eventually things just spiralled out of control for Lorenzen, and his weight skyrocketed to over 500 pounds. However, last August he decided enough was enough and launched a web series called “The Jared Lorenzen Project” to document his weight loss journey.

So how’s that going? Pretty damn great, actually. After dealing with a few medical problems at the outset, including thyroid and testosterone issues, Lorenzen’s team implement a strict nutrition and workout regimen that helped him shed 70 pounds in just six weeks. Now he’s down a full 100 pounds just nine months in.

In a recent phone interview with For the Win, Lorenzen said he mostly eats lean protein, fruits, and nuts. As for exercise, he tries to get in 10,000 steps per day while doing yoga two days a week and lifting weights three or four days. And he says he’ll do a “boot camp” type workout about once a month.

Lorenzen credits his early success to having lots of support.

“If you’re doing it by yourself, it’s difficult,” he told For the Win. “And if you get people out there to help you, it’s fortunate.”

Getting positive feedback on social media is a huge boost.

“When I get out of bed, I’ll grab my phone and start reading messages, like, ‘I was 340 and I’m down to 305,'” he said. “It’s like, get your butt out of bed and go do what you gotta do!”

Pretty awesome stuff.
