Joel Embiid Returned to Action Wearing a Bonkers Mask, and NBA Fans LOVED It (TWEETS)

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid suffered a concussion and a broken orbital bone when he collided with teammate Markelle Fultz during a game against the New York Knicks on March 28. After sitting out the remainder of the regular season and first game of the playoffs, Embiid cleared the NBA’s concussion protocol on Monday. However, he still wasn’t given the green light to play Game 2 of the Sixers’ first round playoff series against the Miami Heat, much to his disappointment.

Luckily, Embiid was cleared to play in Game 3 in Miami on Thursday. And while the guy scored an impressive 23 points in his first ever playoff game, a 128-108 win for Philly, hardly anyone seemed to care about his actual performance. Instead, the only thing people were talking about on social media was the protective mask Embiid wore, which was unlike any the NBA had ever seen.

Take a closer look:

Embiid’s mask is made of carbon and polycarbonate thermoplastic polymers for extra strength, and it features built in protective goggles.

Obviously, most people on social media thought it made Embiid look like either a superhero or a supervillain.

Unfortunately, much like Christian Bale‘s first cowl in Batman Begins, Embiid’s first mask needs some modifications. The thing didn’t even last one game before breaking…

Luckily Embiid doesn’t have a secret identity to protect, so he won’t have to order 10,000 of them at a time. Probably just two or three will do.
