Habs 3000th winTotal Pro Sports - Last night one of the most storied franchises in sports history the Montreal Canadiens won their 3000th NHL game against the Florida Panthers.  The game ended in a 5-2 beating with defensive player Maxim Lapierre scoring his first career hatrick.

The game was played in Sunrise, Florida to a nice gathering of Habs fans.  A friend of TPS who is a huge Montreal Canadiens fan and was present at the game, reported that it almost seemed as if he were watching the game in Montreal at the Bell Center.

"The atmosphere was electric, we were much louder then the Panthers fans!"

He noted that two cheers broke out "Go Habs Go" and "Carey, Carey, Carey, Carey" for their stellar goalie Carey Price.  Florida is a great place to watch a hockey game, it's cheap and the atmosphere is great.

Florida coach Pete DeBoer had this to say about the Habs 3000th win last night,

"I thought the crowd was great, It was a great atmosphere, outstanding. If we can have crowds like that every weekend, I don't care who they're cheering for. It was a great atmosphere in the building." reported espn.com

Even opposing coaches appreciate other fans in their building cheering.  Peters statements are definilty true. Being a former hockey player myself, we loved going into other teams barns and stirring it up with their fans.  It rallied up our team knowing our fans were with us away from home.

Probably one of the best franchises in history

    2. It’s all about Cup wins and the Habs have the most at 24.

Montreal has the most Stanley Cups, the most franchise wins and in my opinion in the history of the game have had some of the best and most legendary players on their team. As a Franchise and a history, the numbers don’t like, the stats don’t lie, The Montreal Canadiens are the greatest Franchise not only in the National Hockey League, but possibly in the entire history of professional sports.

This is coming from a leafs fan.

    4. I’m not a Habs fan, but you have to respect the success. There are 24 big reasons why the answer to this question is yes.

Add in the most wins, all the superstars, the red jerseys being the very icon of hockey, and no other franchise measures up.

the detroit red wings are the greatest franchise

    6. Edmonton Oilers have more cups per year in the NHL than the Habs. They also beat the Habs in the playoffs 3 games to zip in their first year in the NHL.

Alberta and Manitoba hockey fans threatened to boycott Molson’s Beer after the Montreal Canadiens said they were voting NO to bringing in WHL franchises of Edmonton, Hartford, Winnipeg and Quebec City. The Habs changed their mind after that!

    7. Montreal used to have the provincial rights to players born in Quebec though. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. their past success is overrated anyways. they will never win the stanley cup again anyways.

    8. yes habs are the best team in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!

    9. There’s no one close. So many great names. Just the goalies list is immense: Vezina, Hainsworth, Durnan, Plante, Worsley, Vachon, Dryden, and Roy. The lists for the other positions are too long.

I guess it’s been a while now, so that must be why today’s Habs fans thought it so exciting to win the FIRST ROUND of the playoffs they rioted and celebrated like they’d won the cup.

I like today’s team and I am awed by the history of the franchise.
But the fans today are an embarrassment to all that.
Calm down people. You’re acting Red Sox and Yankee fans.
