Rey Maualuga Apologizes To Erin Andrews
Total Pro Sports - After an eventful Rose Bowl and the surfacing of the pre-game video of Rey Mauluga grinding like he was in a night club on the sideline with Erin Andrews. It was definitely the game to watch.
But once again a little situation has been blown out of proportion by the Women's Sports Foundation. Rey Maualuga was just having a little fun with Erin Andrews on the sideline. Yes we agree that Erin never knew he was behind her, but he never touched her or did anything we think was wrong.
Donna Lopiano, former CEO of the Women's Sports Foundation, called Rey Maualuga
"my first-round pick for 'offensive' player of the year" and his dance behind Andrews "another example of a narcissistic, high-profile athlete believing that any behavior, no matter how inappropriate, is acceptable because of his status. For those who would laugh off, celebrate or enable this behavior, think twice. Ms. Andrews could be your sister, daughter or wife."
What does the status of a person have to do with anything? If she thinks Rey's acts were wrong then it doesn't matter what a persons status is, it's just not acceptable. So does this mean it's acceptable for a regular "Joe" working 9-5 at the local McDonald's? I think Donna better rethink the way she uses her words.
Erin Andrews has yet to comment on the situation, but ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said, "We appreciate the apology,"
We think this is an absolute joke. People are dying around the world and something so idiotic makes headlines. Lets reverse the situation, if Erin Andrews snuck up on Rey Maualuga, do you think the Men's Sports Foundation would come out and say this is offensive?
I don't think so!

No apology needed
no he didnt need to apologize, we have became such a pussified nation..everyone is always offened about everything
haha
what a goof ball.
Go Rey its ya birthday!
!Having fun is not a crime!!
even though it would be the right thing to do..i’d still say no because that lady thinks too highly of herself and it’s just a joke..anyway i’m going to miss rey he has been a hell of a player for us..FIGHT ON!
no he doesn’t. given the chance any guy would’ve done the same thing and he didn’t touch her so i think its ok
Yes, and he should kiss her feet, and worship the ground she walks on.
OF COURSE HE DOESN’T!!!!!!!
It’s not as if he disrespected her, or pretended to hump her or anything. Clearly this Donna Lopiano charater is auditioning for a job at PETA or something, given the quality of that whine.
Clearly people need to lighten up and realise that it was JUST A JOKE.
Hell yes! She should have pepper sprayed that thug!
No self respecting white woman wants some guy who looks like a cannibal from Borneo lurking over them!
Not saying what he did was wrong, but someone else a few years back did a gesture so that it looked like he was grabbing her boob, and she took him to court for sexual harassment. She obviously thinks too much of herself, and takes herself way too seriously. If a situation presented itself, would she be able to not say something with double entendre? Or a little player bashing with some “humor” thrown in? I highly doubt it.
Who’s the president of the’Women Sportscaster Foundation’… Lisa Olsen?
Who remembers that oldie but goodie?
Why doesn’t she find a new line of work is she can’t handle a little joke.
Let’s ask the obvious follow up question then. Was Rey a p*ssy for apologizing? If you answered “No” to the original question then you probably do.
I thought the apology was a classy thing to do. Rey’s got the draft coming up. Last thing you need is GM’s wondering about your off-field demeanor.
Btw, Andrews didn’t respond in any fashion about the ‘dance’ prior to Rey’s apology. So stop pointing the finger at her.
Nope…as a female sideline reporter for football, you have to be able to handle certain things like that. Ask any woman who works in a traditionally male-dominated job (military, EMS, etc)…you have to have tough skin. If not, you won’t last very long
If she knew it was happening or not is not relevant. Players should be conducting themselves in a civilized manner and not demeaning people on the sidelines. The reason football players get such a bad reputation is because of situations like these where players act with no class or just all out thugs like Miami.
I would have expected better from USC since Pete is supposed to be running a classy football program guess we see really how far USC has fallen not just in terms of its inability to make a championship.
stumbled upon this post pretty late…
“What does the status of a person have to do with anything? If she thinks Rey’s acts were wrong then it doesn’t matter what a persons status is, it’s just not acceptable.”
She’s hypothesizing that Rey thinks he can get away with it because of his status. She’s saying exactly what you’re getting at – status doesn’t matter. She implies that a regular person couldn’t get away with it, so a high-profile football player shouldn’t be able to get away with it, either.
I’m not sure how you inferred that her message is Rey shouldn’t be allowed to act in that way, but a regular Joe should. That’s nearly the opposite of what was said.
