The Curious Case Of Pat White
Total Pro Sports- Former West Virginia quarterback Pat White may have increased his draft stock because of his 40 yard dash time at the NFL combine. White ran the 40 in 4.5 seconds, which is a great time for a QB and solid time for a wide receiver. Many people are suggesting that White will be drafted as a Kordel Stewart type player. In today's NFL there is a place for players with Whites dual-threat ability.
He was great as a college QB over the last couple of years, but it seems that he lacks the size to compete at the next level. Thanks to innovative new offenses such as the Wildcat, I feel that White will have a place in the league. I have always liked watching him play at West Virginia and I hope he has a great career as a pro. His effectiveness as an NFL player could hinge on which team picks him up in the draft. Lets take a look at the best possible scenarios for White:
Miami Dolphins: The originators of the Wildcat offense would be the best fit for this guy. They are also very thin at receiver, which could make White even more appealing. Having White, Ronnie Brown, and Chad Pennington all on the field at the same time could be great for this young team.
Houston Texans: The Texans have Steve Slaton, White's former Virginia teammate, a reunion of these two players could work in the NFL. Also some help for Andre Johnson is needed in the Texans offense. I like Owen Daniels and Kevin Walter, however the presence of White could take the offense to the next level.
Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals could potentially lose both T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson this year, so why not take a chance on this guy.
Chicago Bears: Another team with a serious lack of depth at the receiver position. Besides if they draft him he could probably be the starting QB on this team because Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman stink.
Detroit Lions: Why not?

The only thing curious about Pat is how everyone keeps doubting his ability to stand up to the typical cookie cutter QB. I’m sure after this combine people will finally be unable to deny the fact that Pat holds his own and is far above those “taller and heavier” than he is. What’s sad is all along, WVU fans have known what most of the scouts, coaches and ‘experts’ are just finding out. And just like when we took OU out in the bowl game..we left 85% of America scratching their heads and DEAD wrong on what is possible. Maybe now, and especially after the pro day, those that speak with such godlike expertise will actually admit to being wrong and consider him worthy of the credit he deserves. I watched beforehand for days how he was mocked for size and blew off as nothing worthwhile. “Stafford and sanchez” spoken on the lips along with “great..first round..top picks”. i watched the drills. I watched how White’s arm did him justice, crush most of the other guys, and wow..those top picks? How’d that turn out/ Oh yeah..Under threw balls and slower times. That just screams of top class talent doesn’t it? Pat can be a QB in ANY lineup. He doesn’t need a wildcat anything. He just needs to be himself to pull out and get the job done his way. I’ve heard him called fragile like he should be wearing a ‘handle w care’ sticker on the back of his helmet. Pat can take hits even at his size, but he’s also fast enough to avoid getting hit at all.
Keep your eye on the Dolphins in round four. If White is still there, the Dolphins could snatch him up. They need WO help and would benefit from a “wildcat” type of dual threat. I think Mr. Jenkinson has taken this situation a little personal. I agree with him that White has ability, but his road to success will be rougher than most. When he’s standing behind a line full of 6′5″-6′8″ linemen, and being rushed by similar types, we’ll see if his skills translate to the pro game. I’m rooting for him, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on him.
With all the garbage QBs in the league, and a terrible draft class at that position, why not give him a shot? I’ve always liked his mobility, he’s got a better arm than Tebow, and he’s gone 4-0 in his bowl starts. Sounds good to me.
round 4…he’s gone…he’ll be gone by round 3…max…im thinking late 2nd.
pat white can make every throw you ask of him. he throws the deep, he can throw the slant, he can make the out throw to the sidelines, he can throw to the right across his body on the run. ask oklahoma if he can throw, ask georgia if he can win or not.
