Roenick’s Mess Up Highlights Odd Night At The NHL Awards In Vegas

Roenick's Mess Up Highlights Odd Night At The NHL AwardsTotal Pro Sports - The NHL wanted to try something new for this year's NHL awards ceremony.  It moved the show from The Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto to Las Vegas, home of the.....well, no one actually.  A strange move, but not when you consider the NHL's intent to keep things out of Canada rather than bring them in.

If the change of location wasn't strange enough, the actual event had the feel of a 1980s game show.  Weird lights and creepy music made you wonder whether Bob Barker would be presenting the next trophy.  Speaking of trophies, the Stanley Cup was in attendance.  Luckily it was fished out of Mario Lemieux's pool in time.

There was also the excessive reading which was only made worse by the fact that presenters were expected to say so much.  The biggest victim was Jeremy Roenick, who was stumbling early and had to restart at one point as his word-juggling became too apparent that he couldn't even make sense of it anymore.  The random man beside him seemed to enjoy it.  He was probably thinking, "if only J.R. would have given me some lines, he wouldn't have to say so much."

When it was all said and done, Alex Ovechkin made his presence felt, taking home the Hart (MVP), Richard (most goals) and Pearson (MVP voted by the players) trophies.  The Bruins also did well, with Claude Julien, Zdeno Chara and Tim Thomas receiving honors as the best coach, defenseman and goalie respectively.  Thankfully the choices for the awards were not as out-of-whack as the actual event itself.

Here is the clip of Roenick's not-so-smooth moment.

How many times did he call it the Fan Five? Its the Fan Fav award jackass. If he was the Fan Fav, why did he get booed?

Before calling other people out and calling them names, you should try to get your points correct. Anthony Cruz is the guy holding the trophy and not the winner. The name of the clip is “Roberto Luongo wins the Scotiabank Fan Fav Award.” Clearly, if you missed both of these, you’re either inbred or weren’t paying attention before putting your thoughts down.

Secondly, Cruz is a surname that can readily be found in the Philippines. Whether that is Anthony’s ancestry is not really important, and he could have acquired that name by many other means. But to you (Jason) and to the author of this blog post, you’re both fucking retarded. Who the hell cares about Anthony Cruz? Jason is stupid for trying to sound like a smartass and failing. The author is a fuckshit for calling out a guy’s ancestry for no apparent reason.

    3. He didn’t get booed, people yell “LU!!!” for Luongo. Ever watched hockey before?

    4. JR almost made me wonder if it was called the fan five initially (as in they had 5 choices). They also weren’t booing they were saying “LUUUUU” as in Roberto LUongo.

      It is a compliment.

    5. The guy who responded to Jason is an even bigger idiot. I’m pretty sure Jason was referring to luongo getting booed not the guy presenting the trophy. And how is calling a fan that is on stage as a token gesture ‘a random man’ calling out his ancestry?
