The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/27/09 – Josh Willingham

0

josh-willinghamTotal Pro Sports - It took a great night to outperform Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum, who went nine solid innings allowing only two runs on four hits, while striking out a career high fifteen batters.  Washington Nationals right-fielder John Willingham was up to the task, having an incredible night at the plate as he led his team to a 14-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Willingham made history by becoming only the 15th player in the majors to hit two grand slams in a single game.  The first came in the fifth inning off Suppan, and one inning later it was DiFelice who was the victim a hot bat.  When it was over, Willingham would go 3 for 5 with two home runs and eight RBIs, enough to earn "The Stat Line Of The Night" for Monday, July 27th, 2009.

For a team who has had few bright spots thus far this season, Willingham's accomplishments on the night will go a long way to life the spirits of the Nationals.  There are no playoff aspirations in Washington this season, but a solid finish and the prospects of having Steven Strasburg on their mound in the future may be enough to bring some excitement to Nationals Park.
