Kingston Frontenacs Wear Don Cherry Suit Jerseys During Canadian Forces Night
Total Pro Sports - It was "Military Night" in Kingston as the OHL's Frontenacs took on the the visiting Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. So what exactly does such an event consist of? How about Don Cherry riding around the rink in an army vehicle, and some brutally ugly jerseys that would make any list of poor sports uniforms.
Since when did a military appreciation night become a tribute to Cherry anyways?
The jerseys were meant to resemble the wild, outrageous suits Cherry has become known for wearing during his Coaches Corner segments on CBC's Hockey Night In Canada, and they definitely drive the point home, but perhaps your typical military camouflage colors would have made much more sense under these circumstances.
However, Cherry, the fans, and players of both teams had fun with it, and each jersey worn during the game will be signed by the popular Canadian figure and auctioned off with all proceeds going to Soldier On.
For the sake of the soldiers, one can only hope there are enough individuals with poor enough taste to buy these monstrosities.
Here is an interview with Don Cherry

Don Cherry is #1
Don Cherry has been known to “break down” on HNIC supporting the troops and will bend over backwards to support them! This is a great idea by Kingston and these jersey will sell out.
does anyone know how i get my hands on one of these jerseys…really want one
Interesting that you should end your article wondering if there were folks out there with poor enough taste who would buy these monstrosities. Well, there are. My husband and I are visiting our 39 year old ex-pat son in the US. As soon as our son saw these “monstrosities”, he turned to us and excitedly proclaimed, “That’s what I want for Christmas!” Unfortunately we have since learned that there are only 20 of them and they are being auctioned off. The bid price is now way out of the range of a Christmas present. But wait! The marketers have the right idea. They missed the mark by dreaming too small Yes, we certainly support the troops but frankly, I don’t think most guys would want to wander around in a camouflage hockey jersey. It’s been done ad nauseum and it’s tired. Conversely, the Don Cherry jersey is a fresh concept. Don Cherry is a Canadian icon in hockey circles. Red neck as he is, ya gotta love the wardrobe get-ups that have added to his fame. Plus he is an avid supporter of the troops and weeps every time he announces the name of yet another fallen soldier on his Coaches Corner show. I wager that hundreds of Don Cherry adult recreational league hockey players (such as two of our sons) would pay a couple of hundred bucks for the jersey and support the troops at the same time. Could raise a whole pile of money for the troops way beyond what 20 jerseys could.
