NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 6

November 19, 2008

Total Pro Sports - While last week belonged to the goaltenders, this week belonged to the Washington Capitals. Both Ovechkin and Backstrom finally woke up and had big weeks scoring a combined 18 points.

This week's honorable mention goes to Devin Setoguchi of the San Jose Sharks who put up 8 points (4 goals & 4 assists). Five of those points came on the powerplay and one of his goals was a game winner. He also had 21 shots on goal which is big if it's a category in your league.

Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 6.

3rd Star - Niklas Backstrom (G), Minnesota Wild

While the Wild only played two games last week Backstrom played in both collecting 2 wins while posting a 0.96 GAA, .960 SAV% and a shutout. Niklas has been an underrated goaltender, especially fantasy wise, since he came into the league back in 2006 which I find very surprising. He's a top notch goaltender who plays behind a defensive minded team. If you're weak in goal and need an upgrade I'd suggest trying to trade for Backstrom. He'll come at a cheaper price than someone like Cam Ward and at the end of the season will probably get you more fantasy points.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 11

November 15, 2008

Michael JenkinsTotal Pro Sports - Earlier in the year he was a joke, but now he could carry your team. When you heard his name you may have thought of the receiver Yancey.  Common mistake. Regardless it is time to pay attention this quarterback from Coastal Carolina. Oh yes boys and girls, Tyler Thigpen. Last week Thigpen threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns against San Diego. Looking ahead, Thigpen toughest match up is Buffalo. With Dwayne Bowe and the emerging Mark Bradley, Thigpen will get to shred New Orleans, Denver and Oakland in the weeks to come.

Here’s some other Fantasy Football Waiver Wire for Week 11.

QB- Tyler Thigpen, KC- Seriously. Look at his schedule.

QB- Matt Hasselbeck, ARI- He’s been forgotten and probably available in your league. Take a flier on this former all-pro. He’s got a nice match up against the Cards.

RB- Peyton Hillis, DEN- Selvin Young? Out. Ryan Torain? Out. Andre Hall? Out. Insert tacky cliché about flies here. Then insert Peyton Hillis. He is their fullback but I bet he gets the most touches this week for the Denver ground game.

WR- Michael Jenkins, ATL- He’s been productive over the past four games. He’ll be up against Denver and will be caught up in a shoot out, which is always a good thing for a receiver.

NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 5

November 13, 2008

Total Pro Sports - Week 5 definitely belonged to the goalies. I didn't want the players to feel left out so I do have a forward as the third star.

Therefore, this week's honourable mention goes to goaltender Steve Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Mason went 3-0-0 while posting a 2.60 GAA and .907 SAV%. If his solid play continues it'll make things interesting when Leclaire returns from injury.

Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 5.

3rd Star - Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames

This guy is turning out to be a fantasy stud yet again. Iggy had 7 points (4 goals & 3 assists) and 12 SOG in 4 games. Four of those points, all goals,  came on the powerplay. I would not be surprised if Jarome ended up being a better fantasy player than Ovechkin this year, especially if you have PIM as a category in your league.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 10

November 7, 2008

Joe Flacco RavensTotal Pro Sports - Running backs win fantasy football championships. Sure backs like Frank Gore, Brian Westbrook and LT might get you to the championship but crafty pickups during the home stretch can take your team from contender to juggernaut.

Here’s some pickups that could take your team to the next level. Lets take a look at this weeks Fantasy Football Waiver Wire.

QB- Joe Flacco - Like his draft day mate, Matt Ryan, Flacco has settled into his role nicely. Over the past three weeks Flacco has accounted for 640 yards and four touchdowns. He’ll have a nice match up against the Texans this week.

NBA Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 1

November 5, 2008

Chris BoshTotal Pro Sports - Even though this was a shortened week, we will publish our first week of NBA Fantasy 3 Stars. The first week in any sport is hard to determine who was the best performer. Players are trying to find where they left off last year, as a little rust is still visible on most players.

Not only were these NBA players big fantasy basketball performers, they helped their own team win on the court.

Lets take a look at the NBA Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 1.

1st Fantasy Star - Chris "CB4" Bosh, Toronto Raptors

Chris Bosh was a monster on the court this past week averaging 26 points, 10 Rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He lead the Toronto Raptors last week to a 3-0 record, along with 2 wins on the road. The combination of Jermaine O'Neal and Chris Bosh look deadly, and are already drawing close comparisons to a much more athletic version of the "Twin Towers". If you have Bosh on your fantasy team this kid should be a fantasy starter all the time. Look for the Raptors to keep on improving as long as the team could stay healthy.

Fantasy Football Players Of Week 9

November 4, 2008

Total Pro Sports - This week in the NFL was very much about backup quarterbacks. The Cowboys Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger both struggled in place of starter Tony Romo.

Bryon Leftwich stepped in for Big Ben on Monday night and led the Steelers to an impressive victory. Ryan Fitzpatrick helped the Bengals get their first win, and Even Rex Grossman a hand in his team beating the Lions.

It is only fitting that this week our Offensive player of the week is Gus Frerotte, who started the year on the bench. Our offensive rookie of the week is Joe Flacco, who was supposed to backup Troy Smith this season but that all changed when Smith was fell ill during the preseason and the rest is history.

Here is the complete list of the best Fantasy Football Players Of Week 9.

Best Offensive Player - Gus Frerotte, QB, Minnesota Vikings.
No, this is not a typo; Gus Frerotte is the offensive player of the week, in our opinion. Call it a slow week for Fantasy Football but, Grampa Gus had himself a dandy of a game. Frerotte completed 11 out of 18 passes and had 3 touchdowns. The Vikings seem to be in much better shape now the Frerotte is the starter and Jackson is nailed to the bench.

Honorable mention: Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants.

NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 4

November 4, 2008

Total Pro Sports - Week 4 saw two players regain their form and one who doesn't even have one but can still keep the pucks out of the net. Even though he didn't make the list, honourable mention has to go out to Corey Perry who put up 9 points last week (2 goals & 7 assists). He sure helped out my fantasy team last week.

Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 4.

3rd Star - Teemu Selanne, Anaheim Ducks

The Finnish Flash was anything put invisible last week, especially on the power play. Selanne put up 9 points (6 goals & 3 assists), 7 of which came on the power play. Despite his age Teemu is still putting up the points and is looking to have another 80+ point season. If you're in a keeper league and have one too many young keepers, Teemu would be worth while giving up some youth for.

2nd Star - Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Ducks

To steal a phrase from The Rock, "Finally! Ryan Getzlaf has come back to Anaheim!" Frustrated Getzlaf fantasy owners were waiting patiently and wondering when Ryan would finally break out. Well that break out happened last week putting up 10 points (2 goals & 8 assists). As young players are prone to doing, Getzlaf might get on another cold streak. If he does that's when you will want to jump in and try to make a trade for him while his value is down.

1st Star - Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins

While I personally dislike Thomas and his style, you can't argue with the numbers and results. Thomas won 3 games while posting a 0.99 GAA and a .970 SV% while recording back-to-back shutouts over the Oilers and Canucks. You might want to consider trading Thomas while his value is high since Manny Fernandez is right behind Tim and Boston wont hesitate to bring him in if Thomas has a bad game or two.

Remember to check back in next week to see who the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars will be for Week 5.

Semin: What’s So Special About Sidney Crosby?

October 31, 2008

Sydney Crosby takes shotsTotal Pro Sports - After getting listed with a day to day injury, Alexander Semin of the Washington Capitals is now questioning "What's So Special About Sidney Crosby?" and if Sidney Crosby is truly the leagues next best thing?

Semin was interviewed by yahoo.com, this is what he had to say about "Sid The Kid"

"What's so special about Sidney Crosby? I don't see anything special there," Semin, who leads the NHL with 16 points. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks ... (Kane) is a much more interesting player. The way he moves, his deaking abilities, his thinking on the ice and his anticipation of the play is so superb."

Sidney Crosby, left Thursdays game against the Phoenix Coyotes after feeling some sort of discomfort. Crosby is off to a decent start early in the season, with 13 points in 11 games.

"Honestly, I don't even know what happened; I'd have to look at the tape," Crosby told Pittsburgh reporters following the game. "I just had some discomfort. I just decided in the third period I couldn't do much, so..."

For all you fantasy hockey owners out there don't worry Sidney will be back and will get your team 100 point this year guaranteed. That's "What's So Special About Sidney Crosby?"

Fantasy Football Wavier Wire: Week 9

October 29, 2008

Ted Ginn JrTotal Pro Sports - The Fantasy Football Wavier Wire can be a tricky thing. On one hand you can find a gem like Donnie Avery, 6 receptions, 163 yards and a touchdown. On the other hand Josh Morgan can get you a grand total of zero points. If you were on the Avery bandwagon, enjoy the waiver wire gold. If you jumped on Morgan’s bandwagon, don’t be discouraged. A waiver wire find can be the difference between first or second place.

Lets take a look at this weeks Fantasy Football Wavier Wire.

WR - Ted Ginn Jr, MIA - Two weeks ago he had one catch for a one yard loss. Last week Ginn had 7 receptions for 175 yards. It looks like he’s clicking with Chad Pennington and he’ll have a nice match up against the Broncos this week.

NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 3

October 28, 2008

Total Pro Sports - In what will become a weekly event just like the Power Rankings, we'll be taking a look at the top 3 performers from the week. Not only were these players big fantasy hockey performers, they helped their own team win on the ice.

Lets take a look at the NHL 3 Stars for Week 3.

3rd Star - Marian Hossa, Detroit Red Wings

If you own Marian Hossa in your fantasy hockey league you breathed a sy of relief last week. After getting off to a slow start Hossa managed 6 points in Detroit's 3 games. Three of those points came against his former...former team the Thrashers scoring 2 goals and adding 1 assist. Seems like he's starting to get used to playing with his new teammates and things should only go up from here.

2nd Star - Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames

If you're a fantasy hockey owner that managed to buy low and get Kiprusoff via trade then you were laughing last week. Kipper won all 3 of his games while posting a 1.67 GAA and making 88 saves for a .946 SAV%. Hopefully this is a sign that the Veznia winning version of Kiprusoff is back. Only time will tell.

1st Star - Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames

What better way to top off the week for the Flames than by having Jarome Iginla as the league's best player for Week 3 of the 2008-09 NHL season with 7 points in 3 games. As I'm sure you've seen in the Week 3 Power Rankings the Flames had a big week and Iggy was a big reason why. Iginla scored a hat-trick against the Predators and followed that up with another 3 point night (1 goal & 2 assists) against the Coyotes.

Remember to check back in next week to see who the NHL 3 Stars will be for Week 4.
