UFC 91 Preview

November 14, 2008

UFC 91Total Pro Sports - Well UFC 90 turned out to be a big disappointment, especially the final bout between Silva and Cote. But never fear because UFC 91 is here! Okay, sorry for the corny/cheesy line but this weekend's PPV looks to be a very good one. In fact Dana White has come out and said that it will be UFC's biggest PPV of all-time. Like before I'll just be previewing three of the scheduled matches. For all of the fights and multimedia on UFC 91 you can check out 91.ufc.com.

Lets take a look at our UFC 91 Preview.

Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga (9-3-0) vs Josh Hendricks (18-4-0)

Although I knew immediately who I think will win this bout, it's still fairly evenly matched. Hendricks likes to use his Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu abilities to beat his opponents while Gonzaga is more of a Striker but uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well and can be effective on the ground as well when it comes to Submissions. Despite their records, Gonzaga actually has more experience when it comes to fighting in MMA as he started out in 1994 and Hendricks didn't start until 2002. With his years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his striking ability, I say Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga defeats Josh Hendricks by TKO in Round 2.

UFC 90 Preview

October 23, 2008

Total Pro Sports - UFC, the biggest league in the fastest growing sport in North America Mixed Martial Arts aka MMA, hits Chicago this Saturday, October 25 for UFC 90: Silva vs Cote. Now there's a total of 10 fights for the card, so instead of boring you all and making this a massive article I'll just be previewing the top 3 fights. For all of the fights and multimedia on UFC 90 you can check out 90.ufc.com.

Lets take a look at our UFC 90 Preview.

Sean "Muscle Shark" Sherk (36-3-1) vs Tyson Griffin (12-1-0)

Obviously the typical New Comer vs Veteran here. This should be an interesting fight as Griffin's specialty is the fan favourite Ground'n'Pound while Sherk is known for his great Conditioning and Wrestling skills. I've never been a fan of the Gound'n'Pound fighters and think that their aggressiveness is the reason why even the most effective fighters that use this style only ever end up with short-term rather than long-term success. Sherk is coming into this fight hungry as a win will take him into contention for a title shot and I think that combined with his experience in the octagon will be more than enough to win this fight. I say Sean "Muscle Shark" Sherk over Tyson Griffin by submission in the 3rd round.

Rampage Roadrage

July 16, 2008

I guess most of you have heard by now that former UFC champ Rampage Jackson had a run in with the police yesterday in California. It seems that Mr. Jackson got in a little traffic accident then decided to flee the scene. It is never a good idea to do this, just ask Marshawn Lynch.

Well it seems that the cops weren’t all that impressed with Rampage and decided to pull their guns out on him to force him out of his car. I wonder what he was thinking when this was happening; he was probably trying to figure out how he got himself in that mess in the first place. Perhaps he was thinking why they were being so hostile towards a celebrity like him? Maybe he was thinking about how he got screwed in his last fight against Forrest Griffin. Well, he was driving on the sidewalk and nearly running people over and he was also driving on one of his rims. I think it’s safe to say that he must have been under the influence of some sort of substance; if he wasn’t, then I guess his problems are even worse then I thought.

The best part about the whole situation from my perspective is the fact that Rampage has a life-size decal of himself on his truck. That is awesome, most of the time sport figures choose to keep a low profile, not Rampage. Imagine what it must be like to be walking down the street in sunny California, and a minute later be running for your life from a jacked-up truck with the image of a UFC fighter on it. I guess these are the types of decisions that are made by people who take punches and kicks to the head for a living.

Watch out people I just a saw an SUV with a picture of Mike Tyson on it speeding down the highway.

Ultimate Fighter: Finale Picks

June 21, 2008

ufc

The much anticipated finale of the Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs. Team Forest is set for tonight at 9pm in Las Vegas.  Here is a look at the main fights on the card:

Main Event:

Evan Tanner vs. Kendall Grove

  • The Fight:  Evan Tanner has looked weak in last couple fights, look for Grove to win this one.  Grove has had an impressive start to his UFC career and Tanner seems to be on the decline.
  • The Result:  Kendal Grove second round submission.

The Ultimate Fighter Final:

CB Dolloway vs. Amir Sadollah

  • The Fight:  The only reason this fight is taking place is because original finalist Jesse Taylor was kicked off the show for being a drunken idiot.  Although, Amir won the original meeting between the two, CB should take full advantage of his second chance and win this fight.
  • The Result: CB Dollaway unanimous decision.

Other Matches:

Luigi Fioravanti vs. Diego Sanchez

  • The Result: Diego Sanchez third round submission

Match #2

Jeremy Stephens vs. Spencer Fisher

  • The Result:  Stephens first round K.O.

Match #3

Dante Rivera vs. Matt Riddle

  • The Result: Rivera unanimous decision.

Matt gets mangled

June 8, 2008

Matt HugesFor anyone who watched the UFC last night you must have noticed two things, my picks sucked and Matt Hughes got destroyed.  Prior the fight it was announced that Alves had not made the required weight of 170 pounds.  This gave Matt Hughes the option of not taking the fight, However, Hughes being a warrior decided that the fight should go on.  This was a very bad move on the part of the former champ, because as soon as the bell rang it seemed he was getting dominated.

Hughes was bloodied within seconds of the opening bell and never really recovered.  He tried to take Alves down on numerous occasions but the young fighter’s strength proved to be too much for the veteran.  Hughes barely made it out of the first round.  When the second round started he tried again to take down Alves and was met with a devastating knee to the face which split him open even further.  After he ate the knee Hughes fell on his back and was on the receiving end of a few more punches from Alves.  When the post fight replays were shown it was evident that Hughes had sustained some sort of major knee injury after he was kneed in the face.  I would not be surprised if he tore a ligament in his knee, because it looked really bad.  This fight could mark the end of one of the best fighters in UFC history; at least I hope it will be his last fight because he got destroyed.

On a lighter note, the only fight I was right about last night was between Michael Bisping and Jason Day.  Like I predicted, Bisping ended the fight in the first round. All Jason Day could do was turtle and wait for the ref to save him from brain damage.  Bisping has no doubt moved up in the light heavyweight rankings and will be inline for a title shot in the near future.

UFC 85 will be remembered as an entertaining card, but more importantly I think, it will be remembered as the last fight for Matt Hughes in the octagon.

Look…UFC 85 picks

June 7, 2008

UFC FightThe latest UFC card is set for tonight in London, England.  Many people are disappointed by this card because the scheduled main event of Liddell vs. Evans had to be postponed due to an injury to Liddell.  However, the card should have some excitement with the likes of Matt Hughes and Michael Bisping.  Here is what I think might happen in the octagon tonight.

Main Event:

Matt Hughes (43-26) vs. Thiago Alves (20-4)

I think the former the champ Hughes will win this fight by a submission in the second round.  Matt Hughes needs this fight to regain his spot as a top title contender in the UFC.

Main Card:

Michael Bisping (16-1) vs. Jason Day (17-15)

I like Bisping to win this fight by feeding off the energy provided by the hometown crowd.  Look for Bisping to end this fight early, most likely in the first round.

Mike Swick (11-2) Marcus Davis (14-3)

This fight will be a close one and should make it to a decision with Davis scoring a victory on points.

Thales Leites (12-1) vs. Nate Marquardt (29-7-1)

This fight should end by a submission with the more experienced Marquardt emerging victorious.

Brandon Vera (8-1) vs. Fabricio Werdum (10-3-1)

I think this fight also has the potential to go the distance with Vera winning the judges decision.
