Joe Calzaghe A Fraudulent Legacy?

November 16, 2008

Joe CalzagheTotal Pro Sports - Joe Calzaghe defeated Roy Jones, taking his record to 46-0 and cementing his legacy as the best super-middleweight in the world. However the 0 on his record does not tell the whole story about his fraudulent legacy as he hasn’t fought the top fighters in their prime.

Agreed the fact that his record does boast the names of Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins and he has remained undefeated for 18 years means he should achieve recollection but he shouldn’t attain the status of the best boxer Britain has produced or top 3 in the pound for pound rankings. Joe has achieved these current adulation's because of his victories over a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins, a 39 year old Roy Jones Jr who both floored him despite their age, and the vastly overrated contenders in Mikkel Kessler and Jeff Lacy.

Can David Haye Breathe Life Into The Heavyweight Division?

November 16, 2008

David HayeTotal Pro Sports - Britain’s David Haye announced his arrival in the heavyweight division with a devastating fifth-round knockout of Monte Barrett at the O2 arena in London.

Haye was fighting for the first time since demolishing Enzo Maccarinelli for the WBC, WBA and WBO cruiser weight world titles, knocked down Barrett four times before ending the fight with a powerful right-left combination in the fifth round. His opponent had done well to last as long as he did, somehow climbing off the canvas twice in both the third and fourth rounds.

David Haye has big ambitions to reignite the heavyweight division and has done his chances of facing either of the two Ukrainian world champions Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko no harm, with such a stunning performance over a seasoned heavyweight in Monte Barrett, who had previously fought Wladimir Klitschko in 2000, were he was also knocked out, that time in seven rounds.

UFC 91 Preview

November 14, 2008

UFC 91Total Pro Sports - Well UFC 90 turned out to be a big disappointment, especially the final bout between Silva and Cote. But never fear because UFC 91 is here! Okay, sorry for the corny/cheesy line but this weekend's PPV looks to be a very good one. In fact Dana White has come out and said that it will be UFC's biggest PPV of all-time. Like before I'll just be previewing three of the scheduled matches. For all of the fights and multimedia on UFC 91 you can check out 91.ufc.com.

Lets take a look at our UFC 91 Preview.

Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga (9-3-0) vs Josh Hendricks (18-4-0)

Although I knew immediately who I think will win this bout, it's still fairly evenly matched. Hendricks likes to use his Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu abilities to beat his opponents while Gonzaga is more of a Striker but uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well and can be effective on the ground as well when it comes to Submissions. Despite their records, Gonzaga actually has more experience when it comes to fighting in MMA as he started out in 1994 and Hendricks didn't start until 2002. With his years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his striking ability, I say Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga defeats Josh Hendricks by TKO in Round 2.

The Blue Bombers Support Barack Obama

November 8, 2008

Bomber Support ObamaBlue Bommers Support ObamaTotal Pro Sports - During the Eastern Semi Final playoff game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Edmonton Eskimos you can pretty much expect the unexpected. In the first quarter of the game the Blue Bombers quarterback Kevin Glenn threw a pass that went 78 yards for a touchdown to wide receiver Romby Bryant.

Romby Bryant and other Winnipeg Blue Bomber players celebrated in the end zone wearing Barack Obama t-shirts under their jerseys. During the celebration hey lifted up their jerseys to show their support for the newly elected American President.

During a CFL game you can expect anything to happen, especially when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are on the field. The Blue Bombers have been known all year for their crazy antics in the end zone.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers Celebrations

  • The Hockey Celebration
  • Duck-Duck-Goose Celebration
  • Speed Walking

You see there is a reason to watch the CFL, they don't get penalized for celebrations in the end zone like the NFL.

As soon as we find a picture and video we will release it to you asap.

Freddie Ljungberg Makes Move To MLS

November 1, 2008

Freddie LjungbergThe Seattle Sounders FC, MLS’s newest team, has announced the signing of former Swedish International star Freddie Ljungberg. Ljungberg's contract is for $2.5 million per season, and under MLS regulation, only a portion of Ljungberg's salary will count against the club's salary cap next season.

Ljungberg is 31 years old, stands at 5' 9" tall, and weighs 162lbs. Although small in stature, Ljungberg plans to do big things for Seattle and for the MLS. Many people thought the flashy midfielder could have continued to play in Europe for another 3-4 years, Ljungberg felt this was the right time to make the move.

"I figured if I'm going to take MLS seriously and want to make it a really good league and develop it, I should come now and not in three years' time," Ljungberg said.

Llungberg, a former Calvin Klein underwear model, was impressed that Sounders FC have already sold 17,000-plus season tickets and expects an electric atmosphere at the start of the season.

UFC 90 Preview

October 23, 2008

Total Pro Sports - UFC, the biggest league in the fastest growing sport in North America Mixed Martial Arts aka MMA, hits Chicago this Saturday, October 25 for UFC 90: Silva vs Cote. Now there's a total of 10 fights for the card, so instead of boring you all and making this a massive article I'll just be previewing the top 3 fights. For all of the fights and multimedia on UFC 90 you can check out 90.ufc.com.

Lets take a look at our UFC 90 Preview.

Sean "Muscle Shark" Sherk (36-3-1) vs Tyson Griffin (12-1-0)

Obviously the typical New Comer vs Veteran here. This should be an interesting fight as Griffin's specialty is the fan favourite Ground'n'Pound while Sherk is known for his great Conditioning and Wrestling skills. I've never been a fan of the Gound'n'Pound fighters and think that their aggressiveness is the reason why even the most effective fighters that use this style only ever end up with short-term rather than long-term success. Sherk is coming into this fight hungry as a win will take him into contention for a title shot and I think that combined with his experience in the octagon will be more than enough to win this fight. I say Sean "Muscle Shark" Sherk over Tyson Griffin by submission in the 3rd round.

Game Review: FIFA Soccer 2009

October 21, 2008

FIFA Soccer 2009I Went out and purchased Fifa Soccer 2009 yesterday, so I figured I’d give the Total Pro Sports readers my review.

I switched to Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) in recent years. Even without the licenses and variety of teams that Fifa has, the game play was in a class of its own. I still continue to purchase Fifa every year for the simple reason that PES doesn’t come out in North America until months after Fifa.

This year’s game has really impressed me so far, and for the first time in recent years, I’m not sure that PES will be better.

Game play 8/10

Fifa’s 09 game play has improved a great deal from recent years. This year Fifa soccer 2009 offers more of the pro evolution feeling. The game play is quicker, and players react to what is happening on the field, rather than simply running to where they are programmed to move. The game is simply more entertaining compared to recent years.

One major difference you will notice instantly in FIFA 09 soccer is how realistic the tackling is now. Sliding tackles are great in the game! They are very convincing, and the bounce / deflection of the ball after the tackles is lifelike. Hand balls are even called in this game, something I never really seen in any soccer title in the past. Players react to tackles as they would in a normal footy match, and injuries are in-accordance with the tackles.

Skill moves work better this year as well.

Visual 9/10

FIFA soccer 09 looks better than ever. It’s the attention to detail that really impressed me in this year’s installment. The players look crisper, and their movement is less robotic then recent versions. The grass moves as the ball is moving through it, but keep in mind you won’t really notice this when playing on the classic telecast camera view. Players also get dirty as the game goes on, or they perform slide tackles.

Other Features:

Not sure if this is available on all platforms, but EAsports will be monitoring different leagues and players from around the world and offering weekly updates to reflect transfers, and players current performance. From what I know thus far, EA is offering this service for one league of our choice for free and if you wish to have other leagues, there will be a fee.

Overall 8.5/10

If you are a regular Fifa Soccer 2009 enthusiast, you should not be disappointed with this year’s version. If in recent years you have switched over to Pro Evolution Soccer, this may be the year you come back to your soccer gaming roots. Fifa 09 has the potential to give Pro Evolution a serious run for its money, and may once again claim supremacy on the pitch.
