NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 6
November 19, 2008
Total Pro Sports - While last week belonged to the goaltenders, this week belonged to the Washington Capitals. Both Ovechkin and Backstrom finally woke up and had big weeks scoring a combined 18 points.
This week's honorable mention goes to Devin Setoguchi of the San Jose Sharks who put up 8 points (4 goals & 4 assists). Five of those points came on the powerplay and one of his goals was a game winner. He also had 21 shots on goal which is big if it's a category in your league.
Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 6.
3rd Star - Niklas Backstrom (G), Minnesota Wild
While the Wild only played two games last week Backstrom played in both collecting 2 wins while posting a 0.96 GAA, .960 SAV% and a shutout. Niklas has been an underrated goaltender, especially fantasy wise, since he came into the league back in 2006 which I find very surprising. He's a top notch goaltender who plays behind a defensive minded team. If you're weak in goal and need an upgrade I'd suggest trying to trade for Backstrom. He'll come at a cheaper price than someone like Cam Ward and at the end of the season will probably get you more fantasy points.
NHL Power Rankings: Week 6
November 18, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Unlike the last few weeks there wasn't a tonne of movement in this week's NHL Power Rankings as the Sharks, Rangers, Red Wings, Bruins and Penguins make up the top 5. The Sabres dropped 5 spots and end up at #10.
NHL Power Rankings Movers And Shakers
The biggest Shakers in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Ottawa Senators dropping 6 spots landing them at #27.
The second biggest shaker was the Phoenix Coyotes at #21, moving down 5 spots from last week.
The biggest Movers in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Nashville Predators moving up 9 spots to land at #14. We also have to mention the Philadelphia Flyers who sit at #20 after gaining 8 spots from last week.
Lets take a look at the rest of the league: NHL POWER RANKINGS for Week 6.
NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 5
November 13, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Week 5 definitely belonged to the goalies. I didn't want the players to feel left out so I do have a forward as the third star.
Therefore, this week's honourable mention goes to goaltender Steve Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Mason went 3-0-0 while posting a 2.60 GAA and .907 SAV%. If his solid play continues it'll make things interesting when Leclaire returns from injury.
Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 5.
3rd Star - Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames
This guy is turning out to be a fantasy stud yet again. Iggy had 7 points (4 goals & 3 assists) and 12 SOG in 4 games. Four of those points, all goals, came on the powerplay. I would not be surprised if Jarome ended up being a better fantasy player than Ovechkin this year, especially if you have PIM as a category in your league.
Stop Signs Needed On NHL Jerseys
November 12, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Do you remember back in Minor Hockey everyone used to have stop signs on the back of their jerseys?
When body checking was first introduced in hockey coaches taught their players not to hit players from behind because it could cause seriously injury. Most leagues in Canada had stop signs sponsored by McDonald's stitched on the back of every hockey players jersey. They were put there so other players would remember that if the Stop sign was facing them they should not check.
It seems that the younger hockey players have learned that hitting from behind is wrong and in the NHL they still need to learn. The more that I watch NHL hockey I clearly see no attempt by players to lay off from hitting players from behind.
NHL Power Rankings: Week 5

The second biggest shaker was the New Jersey Devils losing 10 spots in the rankings to #18.

Total Pro Sports - These are just a handful of games that have happened over the past couple weeks. As you will notice none of the home teams listed are from Canada. Canadians love the game of hockey so regardless of their teams record they sell out every game.
Looking at these numbers it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice that the NHL is struggling not only in a sinking economy but in markets that should not have an NHL team.
Is anybody tired of hearing Gary Bettman tell us all the NHL is fine and is not struggling to gain attendance, new fans and money? If he didn’t want us to know how bad of a state hockey is in the U.S maybe he shouldn’t publish attendance records on his site.
Over the past 6 weeks the Canadian dollar has been sinking, only making a recent surge. This has hurt Canadian teams, as they earn revenue in Canadian dollars and pay out player salaries, in US greenbacks.
Christoph Schubert Breakaway, Hilarious
November 7, 2008
Total Pro Sports - After watching last nights hockey game between the Senators and the Flyers, we had to share this video with the world.
For some odd reason last night Ottawa Senators defensemen skated out of his zone and found himself with only Steve Eminger to beat. Eminger tripped over his skates and Christoph Schubert flew by him.
Schubert and the goalie what do you think happened?......Just watch Mike Richards near the end of the play.
Rangers Want Compensation For Cherepanov
November 7, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Who said sports is not run like a business????
A month has passed since the tragic event that took place in Russia when Alexei Cherepanov collapsed and died during a Russian hockey league game with "Omsk". Now, the New York Rangers are looking for compensation for their late draft pick, Alexei Cherepanov.
Alexei Cherepanov, who had yet to sign with the New York Rangers, would be allowed to re-enter the NHL draft, if he was still alive. So the New York Rangers are fighting with the league that since Cherepanov did not sign with the team, they should be compensated for the draft pick. The New York Rangers are looking for a 2nd round draft pick in 2009. CBA Article 8.3 (b) that stipulates that compensatory picks be awarded to teams unable to sign first-round draft picks.

Total Pro Sports - With all the events taking place in the world this past week "Barack Obama becomes the first African American United States President, Brady Quinn Taking over for the Browns, and De Angelo Hall getting cut by the Raiders and his $70 million contract".
It seems that Naughty Patriots Caitlin Davis, the ex NFL Cheerleader is still grabbing all the headlines. In Australia Caitlin is the second most popular story behind actual Australian news.
In a statement provided to TMZ, 18 year old Caitlin Davis refuses to take any responsibility of this event. Caitlin says that the boy in the picture was passed out already with theses drawings on him.
"The kid in the picture was a 'drunk guy who passed out and was written on,' as his costume for the night."
NHL Power Rankings: Week 4
November 4, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Well after three weeks the New York Rangers have finally been knocked off as the #1 team in our weekly NHL Power Rankings.
After winning four games in a row including last Saturday the San Jose Sharks have moved into the #1 spot and the way they're playing now it's hard to tell if anyone will be able to knock them off in the near future.
NHL Power Rankings Movers And Shakers
The biggest Shakers in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Colorado Avalanche and the St.Louis Blues, both dropping 12 spots.
The Avalanche lost all three of their games against the Flames, Blue Jackets and Sharks while only scoring a combined 5 goals and giving up 12.
The Blues lost both of their games to the Hurricanes and Penguins while getting shutout against Carolina and giving up 6 goals against Pittsburgh.
The biggest Movers in our NHL Power Rankings this week were the Tampa Bay Lightning moving up 11 spots. The Lightning took the Northeast by storm, yes it's supposed to be a joke, by beating the Leafs, Sabres and Senators. Both Vincent Lecavalier, more importantly, Steven Stamkos woke up with Steven getting his first NHL point against Toronto and scoring his first NHL goal against Buffalo.
Lets take a look at the rest of the league: NHL POWER RANKINGS for Week 4.
