$425 Million Spent By The Yanks: What Would You Do?

December 28, 2008

Money and BaseballTotal Pro Sports - If you had $425 Million what would you do with it?  We know how the New York Yankees would spend the money.  They would pay players a lot of money and hopefully buy a World Series Championship.

This year the New York Yankees have signed 3 of the top free agents available on the market,  CC Sabathia (7 years $161 million), AJ Burnett (5 years $85 million), and Mark Teixeira (8 years $170 million).  Adding to their squad a growing list top paid players in the MLB.  Are they done or will they continue to spend?

So what would we buy with $425 million?

Total -$36.75 Million

MLB What A Great League…Ya Right

December 23, 2008

MLBTotal Pro Sports - How embarrassing for baseball when a team has to pay a luxury tax in an amount that is greater than the lowest team payroll. The New York Yankees were hit with a luxury tax of $26.9 million today, a figure that exceeds the Florida Marlins team payroll of $21.8 million.

If we compare and contrast the highest paid and lowest paid franchises we notice some interesting facts. The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers finished with a combined record of 163-164, the Tampa Bay Rays and Florida Marlins were 179-142. The Marlins top 3 batters combined for .279 average, 31 HR's and 85 RBI's while the Tigers big three combined for a .296 AVG, 27 HR's and 99 RBI's. It may seem like the big three for the Tigers dominated but let us take a look at the average in salary between these three players, the Tigers' three make on average between them just over $9 million. The Marlins big three make on average $500 Thousand, a figure that is $8.5 million less, for production that is not too much better.

Which Road Do The Jays Choose?

December 15, 2008

Blue JaysTotal Pro Sports - The baseball winter meetings have come and gone. Carsten Charles Sabathia decided to accept the 7 year 161 million dollar contract from the New York Yankees, only a couple days after telling Dodger GM Ned Colletti that he wanted to play for them. If anything it shows how much pressure the Players Union puts on players to take the most money no matter what. Further proof is that Sabathia’s contract is worth 100,000 dollars more per year than the one Johan Santana signed last year, hence why that extra million is thrown into that contract.

AJ Burnett decided to sign with the Yankees. He signed a contract for 9 million dollars less then Carlos Zambrano’s contract, which is truly mind boggling. K-Rod signed with the New York Mets for only 4 million more than he was offered before his 62 record setting save season. This signing was more about being on the big stage of New York than anything.

A.J. Burnett Signs With The Yankees

December 12, 2008

AJ Burnett Signs With YankeesTotal Pro Sports - The New York Yankees are at it again!  Trying to buy a World Series Championship, instead of doing it old school like the Tampa Rays developing from their draft picks and the farm team.

First it was C.C Sabathia and now it's former Toronto Blue Jay, A.J. Burnett.  In one week the New York Yankees have spent over $240 million on 2 starting pitchers, and word on the street is that they are not even done yet with adding to their starting rotation.

The report is that Burnett has reached a preliminary agreement with the Yankees for 5 years and $82.5 million.  Burnett is set to earn $16.5 million a year after basically producing one reasonable season his last year as a Jays.  A.J. did the same thing when he was in his last year of his contract with the Marlins.  He had an outstanding final year and then went on to sign a large lucrative deal with the Jays.

Are The Mets Truly ‘Choke Artists’?

December 12, 2008

Cole Hamels Says \"The Mets Are Choke Artists\"Total Pro Sports - In an article released earlier this week, Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies and MVP of this years World Series was on a New York radio station responding to various questions. When asked about his division rival the New York Mets, Hamels referred to the New York Mets recent playoff performance as "choke artists", rather giving the fans a cliche that was obviously not heart felt, Hamels shot straight from the hip so to speak. His exact words were,

“Last year and this year I think we did believe that [they were choke artists],” he said. “Three years ago we didn’t because they smoked everybody, and I think we all thought they were going to win it all. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. But, yeah, that’s kind of what we believed and I think we’re always going to believe that until they prove us wrong."

Since the arrival of Omar Minaya, the Mets have attempted to buy a World Series, dishing out the big dollars, however, that has not resulted in post season success. This year the Mets have already gone out and signed the biggest name relievers available, J.J. Putz and Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez. On paper the New York Mets have looked great in recent years and to an extent they have played well on the field, however, anything short of a World Series is seen as a disappointment.

2009 MLB Free Agent Projections

December 3, 2008

Total Pro Sports - Next week, in lovely Las Vegas, Nevada the Major League Baseball General Manager meetings will take place.  This is where the top 2009 MLB Free Agents will be discussed and most likely have new teams after the meetings are done.

If you ask me Las Vegas is the #1 city in the world (Gambling, Alcohol and beautiful Women) how can you beat the those big three?  Especially if you have money you can bet this time spent in Vegas will be 100 times better.

So do you think Las Vegas is good spot for the General Manager's to meet? People with money and Vegas are no to good mixtures.  These meetings should be held in a location where nobody could get themselves into trouble, (Naples, Florida, Scottsdale Arizona, San Diego, California).

Hopefully by the end of these meetings we will see which teams will dig deep into their pockets to sign these 2009 MLB Free Agents.

Are You Interested In A Barry Bonds Tattoo?

November 20, 2008

Barry Bonds TattooTotal Pro Sports - If your ever interested in a Tattoo then why not get Barry Bonds on your back?

Forget about Angels, Jesus, or your Zodiac sign. Number 25 and Bonds on your back just like his jersey is something so unique and we think absolutely idiotic.  This gentlemen also has a second Barry Bonds tattoo under the jersey.  It's a tattoo of Barry Bonds after he hit a home run and then pointing up to the sky.

We just want to know what this guy was thinking getting Barry Bonds tattooed on his back? It might be cool now, but lets be realistic what will he do wen he gets married and has a family.

If you watch he video he talks a lot about the World Series Of Poker and how he goes there every year to play. We just think maybe he lost a prop bet with a fellow poker player and had to tattoo Barry Bonds on his back.

Ryan Howard Will You Hit 70 Home Runs?

November 3, 2008

Darren Howard or Ryan HowardTotal Pro Sports - Darren Howard of the Philadelphia Eagles was mistaken this past weekend by police for Ryan Howard of the World Series Champions Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia police officer who pulled over Darren Howard for speeding took his insurance and I.D. to the cruiser. When the officer came back to the car he handed back the I.D. and asked Darren if he was gonna hit 70 home runs this upcoming season?

As confused as we are right now Darren Howard went along with it and said he was going to try. The officer asked Darren Howard aka Ryan Howard to slowdown and good luck with the upcoming season. "I wonder if the officer even knew the Philadelphia Phillies had just won the World Series? Probably not."

You see it does count to have a famous last name and live in a City where they have no clue who there superstar first basemen is. So next time you get pulled over by a police office and they say to you something ridiculous as this, just play along with it and maybe even ask if they would like an autograph.
