NBA Power Rankings: Week 8

December 24, 2008

CelticsWeek: | Pre - 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Total Pro Sports - The Boston Celtics are on fire and have won their last 18 straight games.  This week they again hold the #1 spot in this weeks NBA Power Rankings.

Will the Boston Celtics ever lose a game again this year?  We don't think so!

The Celtics win 18 in a row and the Toronto Raptors are trying to figure out how to win 1 game.  They started on fire this season but have since cooled down.  The Raptors just keep on falling in the NBA power rankings dropping to the 27th spot this week.  It seems as if the Raptors fans are booing Chris Bosh out of town, if they don't start winning expect some major changes to the team.

Greg Oden: Big Man Big Baby!

December 11, 2008

Total Pro Sports - Even though the NBA season is only 17 games old, the word is out on Greg Oden. Oden has only managed to put together 7 points and 7 rebounds a game, for the high flying Portland Trailblazers, who are currently sitting 4th in the Western Conference.

Considering this year is his true rookie year because last year he was injured for the entire season, he has not lived up to his pre NBA hype.  There are skeptics out there already talking about whether or not Greg Oden is a bust out of Ohio State.

His lackluster attitude off and on the court has caught the eye of the Oregonian beat writer Jason Quick.

"I can’t really stand to be around him. He’s such a downer. He’s not a very fun guy to be around and he’s not a very fun guy to talk to. I think his teammates like him, but that guy is not interacting with very many guys in the locker room right now. He can’t let go of being Greg Oden. I think he’s obsessing with all this expectations. Until he starts having fun again playing basketball, he’s not going to get better. I don’t know how he’s going to do that."

Milwaukee Bucks’ Odd Box Score

December 9, 2008

Kobe BryantTotal Pro Sports - I was checking the late night box scores and points for the past 2 days of my Fantasy Basketball Team.  When I cam across something really bizarre in the one of yesterdays games.

It was between Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers.  Yes we all know the Lakers won handily 105-92, but we had to do a double take on the Game Box Score.

Can anyone figure it out? It is truly amazing that this can happen in a basketball game.  We really don't know if this has ever happened before in the NBA or NCAA Basketball history.

If you still can't figure it out the title of the post "Milwaukee Bucks' Crazy Box Score" speaks for itself.

Just take a look carefully.

Boston Celtics Beat The PacersWeek: | Pre - 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Total Pro Sports - After losing the #1 spot to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Power Rankings last week.  The Boston Celtics regained the #1 spot this week in the ranking.  They are currently on a 12 game winning streak and look like they cannot be stopped.

The Los Angeles Lakers last week were #1 in the rankings and now this week fall 2 spots to #3 after losing to the #22 ranked Indiana Pacers.  A game in which the Lakers dominated the Pacers all game they lost a huge lead inthe 4th quarter to lose the game.  A first for the Lakers, you can be sure this will not happen again this year.  Look for them to rebound and conitue on their winning ways.

Corie Blount Busted With A Lot Of Weed

December 5, 2008

Corie Blount BustedTotal Pro Sports - Reports out of Cincinnati that former Cincinnati Bearcats star and NBA journeyman has been arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession.  Corie was not charged with having just a "Blunt" or otherwise known as a joint in his possession. Police seized 29 pounds of marijuana, 3 guns, $29,500 in cash and 3 vehicles.  The 29 pounds of marijuana has an estimated street value of $52,200.

"Blount was followed to his residence where deputies stopped him and arrested him," the news release says.

The 11 pounds of weed picked up by Corie Blount was a controlled delivery all orchastrated by federal agents.

Corie Blount graduated in June from the University of Cincinnati in criminal justice. Blount was also recently inducted into the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame.  He was also drafted by the Chicago Bulls' in the first-round of the 1993 NBA draft.

Sometimes we just sit back and wonder why just why can people be so stupid to do something like this. I mean Corie Blount had an 11 year NBA career earning $14 plus million over his career.

Now the real question here is was the weed intended to sold or smoked.  Obviously that amount it would be assumed that it was intended to be sold.  If not Corie had a serious pot smoking habbit.  We'll just have to wait and see what comes out of this case.

NBA Teams Soon To File For Bankruptcy?

December 4, 2008

NBA Attendance DropsTotal Pro Sports - I was going over some stats from last nights NBA games and wanted to see the numbers Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks put up for my NBA Fantasy Basketball Team.  Joe Johnson had a nice night from the field scoring 26 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds, could have been better but I'll take it.

What shocked me most was not Joe Johnson's line on the night but at the beneath the Hawks totals, the game info read as follows.

Game Info: Memphis Grizzlies at Atlanta Hawks

Arena: Philips Arena, Atlanta, GA
Attendance: 12,088
Officials: Derrick Collins, Jim Clark, Ron Garretson
Duration: 2:18

I did a double take on the Attendance and had to adjust my eyes to make sure I was reading this properly.  We all know Atlanta does not draw well in hockey with the Thrashers, but this bad of a showing with the Atlanta Hawks was really surprising.  An American loved sport, drew an attendance similar to their last place hockey team?   Hawks fans can't complain just yet they have a decent team with an 11-6 record.  Whats their excuse this time, the hot dogs are raw?

Rodney Rogers Paralyzed After Accident

December 4, 2008

Total Pro Sports - Former Wake Forest University Star and 12 NBA veteran, Rodney Rogers has been paralyzed from the waist down after being thrown from an ATV he was riding in rural N.C. last week.

Former college coach Dave Odom, broke the news to the News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina  Rodney Rodgers was transferred Wednesday from Duke Hospital to Atlanta's Shepherd Center.  The Atlanta's Shepherd Center specializes in recovery from any catastrophic injuries.

If anyone remembers Rodney Rodgers he was drafted in the first round, ninth overall by the Denver Nuggets in 1993.  He played a total of 12 NBA seasons with 7 different teams.  After retiring from the NBA he went to work for the city of Durham's Public Works Department in North Carolina.

"I didn't even know he had lots of money. He is very friendly, very concerned, very conscientious. We chose him because of his ethics and his attitude. He was highly motivated. He was promoted to supervisor six months ago," Michael Balzarano, Rogers City Boss says.

Rodney Rogers was set financially for life his agent says.  But Rogers wanted to work he just couldn't just sit back and relax, he had to keep himself occupied.

Our prayers go out to the Rogers family, we hope for a full and speedy recovery.

Sam Mitchell Fired By The Raptors

December 4, 2008

Total Pro Sports - It was only a matter of time before Sam Mitchell was fired.  The sooner the better for the Toronto Raptors with all their expectations this year they are definitely struggling to put everything together.  Assistant Coach Jay Triano will take over as the interim head coach and become the first ever Canadian Head Coach in the NBA.

Over the past 2 years Sam Mitchell lead the Raptors to the playoffs and won the NBA's Coach of the Year for 2006-07.  Other then that Sam Mitchell has yet to really prove anything with the Raptors.  This year he had the team off to a 4-0 start.  They have fallen since to a 4-9 record, due to some injuries.

Last night was the final straw for Bryan Colangelo, the Raptors lost to the Nuggets 132-93.  They allowed Denver to shoot 60% from the field and the Nuggets' 37 assists were the most by an NBA team in regulation this season. The 39-point difference marked the fifth-worst loss in franchise history.

December 1, 2008

Week: | Pre - 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

Total Pro Sports - Well we were wrong a week later, the Boston Celtics have officially lost the #1 spot in this weeks NBA Power Rankings.  Boy did we choke quickly on that prediction.

What else can we say about the Los Angeles Lakers? That they are just amazing.  Having such a talented player like Kobe Bryant and a genius head coach Phil Jackson success is pretty much guaranteed. Do you think they ever miss that day now when SHAQ left? I don't think so.
