NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 9
December 10, 2008
Total Pro Sports - After a couple weeks of well known players making the list this week sees two lesser knowns popping up.
This week's honorable mention goes to Patrik Berglund of the St.Louis Blues. Berglund put up 6 points (3 goals & 3 assists) while 4 of those points came on the power play. So far Patrik is enjoying a solid rookie campaign with 18 points in 21 games. If you're in a keeper league you'll want to keep your eye on him or pick him up if he's available.
Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 9.
3rd Star - Jonathan Toews (C), Chicago Blackhawks
After a very slow start Jonathan Toews has started to play like everyone thought he would at the beginning of the season. Toews recorded 6 points (4 goals & 2 assists) with 3 of those points coming while on the power play and also had 13 shots on goal. If you're in a not so deep league you might still be able to pick him up without losing an arm and a leg in a trade, but he is a rising star so it'd be worth it in the long run if you're in a keeper league.
Plaxico Burress Suspend For Insubordination
September 24, 2008
Total Pro Sports - Insubordination is the act of a subordinate deliberately disobeying a lawful order. Refusing to perform an action that is not ethical or legal is not insubordination. Refusing to perform an action that is not within the scope of authority of the person issuing the order is not insubordination.
The New York Giants have suspended standout wide receiver Plaxico Burress for 2 weeks for not showing up to practise both Monday and Tuesday and not responding to any phone calls placed to him during that time.
What could have been Plaxico Burress excuse? What was he doing that was so important and where was he? Well no excuse now will change Tom Coughlin's mind and his suspension. Burress will now miss the game against the Seattle Seahawks in 2 weeks.
Sometimes it just blows my mind when athletes pull stupid stunts like this. Your getting paid millions of dollars to play a sport. How can you ruin a perfect situation? Go into work everyday for the 6.5 months that is asked of you and then the other 5.5 months you can do as you please. The problem is that as athlete's your given a little, and people like Plaxico Burress seem to think they can take a lot more and get away with it.

Favre a Jet…still a jerk
August 10, 2008
Good job Brett, you managed to do enough crying that the Packers finally gave in and shipped you out of town. The bad news is that you are now a member of the New York Jets. I hope you enjoyed the playoffs last year, because the Jets are not making it this year or next year.
The main reason why the Jets won’t make the playoffs is quite simple, they play in the same division as the New England Patriots, the AFC East. Therefore, they have no shot at winning the division. What about the wildcard you ask? Well let’s see. The AFC South has three playoff caliber teams that are better than the Jets, namely the Colts, the Jags and possibly the Titans. The AFC North also has two maybe three better teams than the Jets, the Steelers, the Browns and possibly the Bengals or Ravens depending on who has a better season. In the AFC West the Chargers are still the team to beat, with the only team having a real shot at the wild card being Denver.
So Brett, as you can see you will be playing on a very mediocre team and hoping to make the playoffs. I never thought that you would be the type to go and tarnish your legacy by playing for another team this late in your career. You have now joined the likes of Joe Montana, Joe Namath, and Franco Harris, all of whom left the teams who brought them glory only to fade away with strange jerseys on. I guess the whole world knows what a jerk you are; at least you still have John Madden to snuggle with at night.

Top 5 Fantasy Cornerbacks
August 10, 2008
The players who save touchdowns from being scored, can be a big help to your team. If you manage to land any of these guys on your team you will be rewarded with some huge points. Here are the Top 5 Fantasy Cornerbacks.
1. Nate Clements
Since sighing one of the biggest contracts in NFL history for a defensive player, Clements has delivered for the 49ers. Playing in San Francisco on a team with a sluggish offense means Clements should get ample opportunity to put up a lot of points this year. For a cornerback he gets a lot of tackles and throw in a handful of picks and forced fumbles and you have a great fantasy player.
2. Marcus Trufant
This former first rounder has hit his stride and is developing into one of the leagues best corners. Trufant plays on an underrated Seattle defense and should produce some big turnover numbers, which will make him a solid option to have on your team. Not to mention that the NFC West has some very weak QBs that he will be feasting on.
3. Leigh Bodden
Bodden finds himself in a new situation this year as he is now a member of the Detroit Lions in a trade that sent DT Shaun Rogers to the Browns. I believe that the Lions won this trade because Bodden has way more value than Rogers. Playing in the very weak NFC North means that Bodden will have another great fantasy season.
4. DeAngelo Hall
Much like Bodden, Hall also finds himself on a new team, the Oakland Raiders. Hall will look to bring some veteran leadership to what is a very young and talented defense in Oakland. This new situation, on a marginally better team will allow Hall to make the kind of plays that he has been known for, which will be very good for your Fantasy team.
5. Darrelle Revis
Revis broke out last season showing the rest of the league that he deserved to be one of the first corners selected in last years draft. Revis will also benefit from the improvements made on the defensive side of the ball. He should post another great season and easily be a Top 5 Fantasy Cornerback.
Honorable mention: Terrence McGee, Courtland Finnegan, Ike Taylor.

Top 5 Overrated Fantasy Cornerbacks
August 10, 2008
Stay away from these washed up Cornerbacks in your next fantasy draft. These are the Top 5 Overrated Fantasy Cornerbacks.
1. Gary Baxter
Two seasons ago Baxter tore his patellar tendons in both knees and has never really recovered from it. Cleveland recently released Baxter and he is currently a free agent, I doubt any team will pick him up and neither should you. There should be much better options on draft day in your league, so avoid Baxter at all costs.
2. Samri Rolle
This former Pro-Bowler has seen better days. Rolle no longer has the speed to keep up with the fast receivers in NFL. Rolle is not a physical receiver which means that he won’t get you many tackles either. Rolle should only be considered as a bench player in the deepest of Fantasy leagues.
3. Chris McAlister
Much like Rolle, McAlister is no longer as dominant as he used to be. The fact that they both play for the Baltimore Ravens means that they should look to get younger at the corner position in a hurry. McAlister should also be considered as a bench player at best. However, of all the players on this list McAlister has the most potential to have a productive season if he can stay healthy.
4. Carlos Rogers
Rogers was drafted in the first round a couple years back and hasn’t proved to his team that he deserved to be picked so high. He finds himself on a talented defense in Washington, which should mean lots of points for Rogers. If you think this is the year he will turn it around, then you should select him, otherwise stay far away.
5. Lito Shepard
The writing was on the wall for Lito and Fantasy players alike when the Eagles decided to throw a big money contract at Asante Samuel in the off-season. Shepard is now the odd man out in Philly and he has voiced his discontent to the media. He still has a chance to be a productive player if he able to land with another team or possibly slide over and play safety. If he sees the field he could have a great season, if not, he is an Overrated Fantasy Cornerback.
Honorable mention: Dunta Robinson, Andre Dyson, Chris Henry.

Top 5 Fantasy Safeties
August 10, 2008
Safeties can make a huge difference on the field, and they can also make a huge difference for your fantasy team. Here are the Top 5 Fantasy Safeties.
1. Kerry Rhodes
Last season Rhodes became one of the best safeties in the league, worthy of a place on any fantasy team. He is a hard hitter with a nose for the ball and as the potential to be a difference maker on an improving Jets defense. The acquisition of Calvin Pace and the drafting of Vernon Gholston means that their pass rush will be much improved, which will translate into more picks for Rhodes.
2. Sammy Knight
Knight is now a member of the defending Superbowl champs after spending a season in Jacksonville. Knight will bring added toughness to one of the leagues best defensive units. The departure of Gibril Wilson to the Raiders leaves the door open for Knight to put up some big stats.
3. Oshiomogho Atogwe
One of the most underrated players in the entire league, Atogwe has been a turnover machine for the Rams. The fact he flies under the radar and has a name that is difficult to pronounce means that he might be available in the later rounds of the draft. He gets extra credit for being the best Canadian defensive player in the NFL.
4. Bob Sanders
The heart and soul of the Indianapolis Colts team is coming off a great season where he was named the Defensive Player of the year. Sanders has shown the impact he can on the field with his big hits and timely interceptions, however staying healthy has been a concern for a player who plays with suck reckless abandon. Injury concerns aside, Sanders is poised to have another stellar year.
5. Adrian Wilson
Wilson is the prototypical modern NFL Safety, he has the size speed and strength that make defensive coordinators drool and offensive coordinators lose sleep at night. He has put up some huge numbers in the past and looks to rebound from a year in which he was plagued by injuries and show the league why he is one of the Top 5 Fantasy Safeties.
Honorable Mention: Sean Jones, Gibril Wilson, Atari Bigby.

Top 5 Overrated Fantasy Linebackers
July 29, 2008
These are the Overrated Fantasy Linebackers you do not want on your IDP team this season. Linebackers are the best option on defense to score you the most points and most likely these guys will struggle.
1. Zach Thomas
Once one of the best defensive players in the entire league, it now seems that age as finally caught up with him. Although, he no longer plays for the Dolphins, he is now on a Cowboys team that is overflowing with defensive star power. Last season he missed a lot of games due to concussions, an injury which could keep him out of the lineup again this year.
2. Teddy Bruschi
Much like Thomas, Bruschi is not getting any younger. He still can be a force on the field, but no longer has the ability to stuff the stat sheets like some other younger players. The fact that the Patriots drafted three linebackers in this year’s draft, one of them being first rounder Jerod Mayo, means bad news for Bruschi.
3. Rosevelt Colevin
Coming off an injury plagued season this former Patriot finds himself on a new team, the Houston Texans. The fact that he is on the Texans could mean his stats will improve from the last couple seasons. This remains to be seen as he has not been fully healthy in a while. It also sounds like he could be will be a situational pass rushers, which is not good from a fantasy perspective.
4. Johnathan Vilma
Not long ago Vilma was the defensive rookie of the year and looked to be on the brink of fantasy stardom. However, things can change fast in the NFL, as a serious knee injury has derailed his young career. He also finds himself on a new team, the Saints, who to put it mildly, have a less than stellar D. The undersized Vilma should only be considered as a fantasy reserve on most teams.
5. Marcus Washington
Washington much like Vilma was once considered one the best young linebackers in the league. In recent years he has seen his production drop a great deal as the Redskins now have a plethora of talent at the position. If you are drafting a team and he is available in the later rounders, remember that he is an overrated fantasy linebacker.
Honorable mention: Willie McGinest, Cato June, Boss Bailey.
