Leafs Mikhail Grabovski Fights And Kicks Referee?

January 9, 2009

Mikhail GrabovskiTotal Pro Sports  - It was a night to remember for Montreal Canadien fans as they honored some of the past Habs greats and Maple Leaf greats.  This year is the celebration of the Montreal Canadiens 100th anniversary as an organization.

A night to remember turned into a disastrous one for Toronto Maple Leafs fans as they lost 6-2.

A total of 150 total penalty minutes were handed down in a rough affair at the Bell Center Thursday Night.  Even goal scorer  Mikhail Grabovski of the Toronto Maple Leads got involved in the fighting.  Grabovski went after Montreal Forward and non-fighter Sergei Kostitsyn.  A matchup of light weights the two could not get at each other as the linesman were holding each of them back trying to issue them both off the ice.  At one point Grabovski drags the linesman with him still after Kostitsyn, but Grabovski is no match for the ref as he body checks him and tackles him to the ice.

The unidentified linesman is rumored to be a retired mixed martial arts fighter, but this still has yet to be confirmed.  After getting up Mikhail Grabovski pushed the linesman, kicked his helmet at him turned away and immediately skated off the ice gesturing the crowd with some unknown hand sign.

Marian Gaborik Feud And The NHL

January 8, 2009

The Glass Man - Marian GaborikTotal Pro Sports - There are so many hot topic issues in the NHL right now.  The Pittsburgh Penguins are in disarray.  Michael Therrien, coach of the Pens, has many problems his players.

A Lot of the players are not happy because Therrien called them out in front of their peers saying their playing terrible.  Mario Lemieux (Penguins Owner) has stated that missing the playoffs is not an option and there needs to be changes.

You can't trade the team, so coach Michael Therrien will probably first to go.  Mario Lemieux as the interim head coach, a possibility.

NHL In Europe

The NHL Overseas has a lot of people wondering why they keep going to Europe.  They make no money out there and it is soon to be a dead issue between NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Paul Kelly.

They should just worry about bringing hockey back to Canada.

Mattias Ohlund Takes A Sweet Punch To The Face

January 8, 2009

Mattias OhlundTotal Pro Sports - The debut of Mats Sundin last night was a good one, he played about 15 minutes and helped the Vancouver Canucks beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.

During the game, Canucks defenseman Mattias Ohlund laid out Edmonton Oilers winger Eric Cole on the side boards.  What seemed to be a clean hit, Sheldon Souray still came to the rescue of his teammate.  A battle of the two opposing defensemen ensued.  The fight didn't last long as Souray connected on a right hook to Ohlund's jaw and it was over.  Mattias Ohlund dropped like a sack of potatoes from the vicious punch.

I wonder if he asked the Time Keeper for some ice?

Jarkko Ruutu Bites Andrew Peters Hand

January 7, 2009

Jarkko RuutuTotal Pro Sports - A couple of weeks ago Don Cherry on coaches corner had nothing good to say about the last place Senators.  He called them thugs and added that he thought they may just steal your car, because of the way they were dressed.  Now today, Jarkko Ruutu of the Senators Bites Andrew Peters hand during a game.

I wonder what he will say this Saturday night about the Senators and Jarkko Ruutu bite?

The Senators where in Buffalo taking on the Sabres on Tuesday Night when this all went down.  A skirmish ensued at the bench and Peters and Ruutu go at it.  As Peters grabs Ruutu in the face with his glove still on he bites it.  It looked as if Jarkko Ruutu was a hungry lion ripping out a piece of meat from his freshly killed prey.

The replay shows Ruutu taking a nice chunk out of Peters glove and then Peters grimacing in pain.  The force of the bite has yet to be determined and it seems as if Peters fingers are still intact.

We'll just have to wait and see if commissioner Gary Bettman steps in and hands down a nice suspension.  We hope so!

If you don't believe us just check the replay out.

Don Cherry Calls Out NHL Thugs On Coaches Corner

January 6, 2009

Don CherryTotal Pro Sports - Leave it to Don Cherry to associate car theft and National Hockey League players with one another.   On CBC, about 3 weeks ago, Don Cherry (on Coaches Corner) had some harsh words for the last place Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning.  Cherry basically told all of Canada what he thinks about how hockey players should dress while going to the rink.

That night the Ottawa Senators were facing the Tampa Bay Lightning when Mike Fisher of Senators and Andrei Meszaros of the Lightning were walking into the rink wearing tuques, untucked shirts and no ties.  This is pretty concerning considering other leagues like the NBA enforce a strict dress code, more than the NHL does.

Cheery was basically saying that their players are dressing the way their team is playing.  He compared the first plac Washington Capitals who came into their came that Saturday Night "Dessed to Impress" and the last place Senators and Lightning walked into the game dressed like they didn't care.

Avery Missing In Action

January 5, 2009

Sean AveryTotal Pro Sports - A lesson learned well soon find out?  We think that Sean Avery is nothing but a head case that belongs with the rest of them in Hollywood.

A good hockey player at best, his ability to get under opposing players skins and give his team 150% every shift is why teams love to have them on their squad.  If Sean Avery could lose the Hollywood attitude he definitely can be a longtime player in the NHL.

But for now he's just a lost soul trying to find himself.  We hope makes the right decision and chooses the one that made him famous.

More NHL Ice Crew Girls Please!

January 5, 2009

Blackhawks Ice Crew GirlsTotal Pro Sports - We came across these beautiful Ice Crews Girls back in Carolina attending a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game early last year.  So you ask, who are are the Ice Crew Girls? Think of cheerleaders on ice, cleaning the snow around the goalies net and skating around the ice getting the fans all rallied up during a TV timeout.

A fantastic idea, so I wondered why back in Toronto the Leafs never had this?

Let me correct myself, the Leafs actually do have an ice crew.  They are 45+ year old men who look like penguins as they waddle onto the ice to clean the snow around the nets.  Can you picture it?

The Ice Crew Girls are an eye catcher and pleasant site to watch and they are desperately needed in Toronto.

Mike Fisher And Carrie Underwood Now Dating

January 5, 2009

Carrie UnderwoodTotal Pro Sports - If you attended the Toronto Maple Leafs game on Saturday night the Battle Of Ontario continued as the Ottawa Senators were in town to face the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Center.

In attendance was none other the country music superstar Carrie Underwood.  She was watching the game from a luxurious ACC suite while I was sitting in my nosebleed purple seats with some guy who didn't stop yelling the whole game.

Miss Underwood was present at the game with the family of Senators forward Mike Fisher.  She was spotted at the ACC when the Hug cam pictured her on the scoreboard screen.  For any of you who don't know what the hug cam is: periodically during TV timeouts the Leafs camera crew will scan through the crowd with the Hug or Kiss cam focusing on couples in the arena to either hug or kiss.  This time the hug cam was focused on Carrie Underwood who immediately hugged the 2 people sitting next to her.  Read more
